TRACKING THE PACK MAY/JUNE 2023 ■ 19 In April, NC State fifth- year redshirt junior offensive tackle Timothy McKay was named a member of the Na- tional Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame's 2023 Hampshire Honor So- ciety. McKay joined other col- lege football players from all divisions who have main- tained a 3.2 grade point aver- age throughout their enroll- ment. That's just the latest ac- complishment for McKay. He also has made the ACC Honor Roll four times, has earned Academic All-ACC recognition and was a semi- finalist this year for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is awarded to college football's top scholar-athlete. McKay, who earned his diploma in business administration and is now pursuing a master's degree, was ap- preciative of the honors, but he also noted success in the classroom has al- ways been an expectation for the McKay children. "Academics is something that is really big in our family, something our dad in- stilled in us at an early age," McKay said. He also took an early interest in en- trepreneurship. McKay can recall hold- ing bake sales with homemade cupcakes around the neighborhood or selling iced tea on the corner. "I've always had that business mind- set," he noted. He's further explored those interests in college. McKay was the first athlete signed by the Pack of Wolves collective, a group that is enhancing the name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities for NC State student-athletes. He continues to help the group "more in a background role," McKay noted. He also attended the first NIL summit held for student- athletes, an event held in Atlanta last June. McKay has also done a pair of intern- ships, one with August Construction Solutions in which he worked in a role similar to an estimator, and then this past summer with RTP Capital Associ- ates performing due diligence on poten- tial investments. The latter appears to have particularly caught McKay's interest. He noted that when his football days are over, he is hoping to work in venture capital or private equity. But there is a chance those entrepreneur ambitions may have to wait. McKay enjoyed a breakout season in 2022 as the Pack's starting right tackle. The graduate of Wakefield High in Raleigh, who was just 16 years old when he enrolled at NC State in January 2019, earned honorable mention All-ACC notice last season after leading the Wolfpack offensive line in pancake blocks with 58.
