44 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BY ETHAN MCDOWELL oe Brooks is a McDonald's All-American, a five-star recruit, a member of Team USA's Nike Hoop Summit squad, a state champion and a national player of the year. In less than two months, she will also be a freshman point guard for the NC State women's basketball team. Brooks committed to the Wolf- pack last summer and then rose in ESPN's recruiting rankings to No. 9 nationally. She is the program's first five-star signee since Jakia Brown-Turner in the 2019 class. While Brooks is aware of the ranking, she said she doesn't let it define her. "I still do the same thing — work hard and play my game," she said. That mentality led to a dominant se- nior season for the 5-foot-10 guard, who helped lead St. John Vianney High in Holmdel, N.J., to a 31-1 record. Accord- ing to NJ.com, she led the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals. She scored 20 or more points in 20 of her 29 games. From a spot on the Naismith and Mc- Donald's All-America teams, to a national player of the year award from SBLive, Brooks piled up the accolades this year — all testaments to her well-rounded game. "I think I do a little bit of everything well," Brooks said. "I like to score and pass. I like to get steals and to get my teammates involved and get them easy shots." After her previous school closed, the VOLUME SHOOTER Incoming Freshman Guard Zoe Brooks Aims To Make Some Noise At Reynolds Coliseum Brooks developed into a star prospect in her two seasons at St. John Vianney High in New Jersey. She was a McDonald's All- American and the No. 9 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class according to ESPN. PHOTO COURTESY VINNIE'S PICS Z
