JUNE/JULY 2023 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 23 ❱ MICHIGAN FOOTBALL the Wolverines with revolving images of the team, videos of them in the tun- nel, messages of "worldwide brand" and "Michigan football 2023 spring tour." Several curious onlookers took to their phones to research it. Steady rain dampened planned Sat- urday morning trips to Central Park and the 9/11 Memorial before the team boarded a train for Washington. They took in the Capitol and several muse- ums of choice on May 1, a Washing- ton Nationals game that night ("My favorite part of that trip," Jenkins said of the team bonding experience), then Arlington National Cemetery and more museums and memorials the following day, including the Holocaust Museum. Next was a day at Gettysburg May 3, where Harbaugh seemed to be in his el- ement … just as he was in Normandy when we visited five years ago. "There are so many similarities of leadership, fighting for your side and for your brothers," Harbaugh told local TV station ABC 27. "For the team, there are a lot of correlations between military and football." The first stop of the final leg of the trip included stops in Cleveland at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Mu- seum, where the team was able to tour the iconic venue and see artifacts and memorabilia from some of the biggest musical acts in history. Some dabbled with the electric guitars available for play, while others spent a lot of time at the Beatles exhibit, among others. From there it was off to Canton, where the Wolverines were well represented. George Allen, Dan Dierdorf, Len Ford, Benny Friedman, Bill Hewitt, Steve Hutchinson, Ty Law, Tom Mack, Ralph Wilson Jr. and Charles Woodson have all been inducted, and all their busts were on display. Hutchinson and Woodson's Michigan jerseys were wheeled out to the entrance for the team, while some of the curators pulled coaches and players aside for a look at special items from the organization's archives, including Harbaugh's from his NFL days. From start to finish, it was a trip to remember. "It just goes to Coach Harbaugh's vi- sion of making complete men, not just football players," junior quarterback J.J. McCarthy said at Gettysburg. "That's something special about this place. Ev- erything we do on a day-to-day basis in the building, in the facility, and out here is just trying to be the best version of our- selves and the most complete version." The team visited Arlington National Cemetery on May 2 and witnessed the Changing of the Guard. Michael Barrett, Cornelius Johnson, J.J. McCarthy and Rod Moore shared the honor of laying the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. PHOTO COURTESY MICHIGAN PHOTOGRAPHY
