4 THE WOLVERINE ❱ JUNE/JULY 2023 HELLUVA GOOD WEEKEND FOR MICHIGAN SPORTS • Women's Outdoor Track and Field wins the Big Ten Championship. • Women's Crew wins the Big Ten Championship. • Men's Lacrosse advances to the Elite 8. • Women's Tennis advances to the Elite 8. • Men's Tennis advances to the Elite 8. Both tennis teams have legit shots at going all the way if they can play their best tennis the next two weeks. Overall, I don't think this will be a banner year for Michigan sports as far as the Director's Cup goes. Fall sports outside of football were abysmal, and getting nothing from men's basketball and softball (and just a little from women's basketball) will probably bump us down a few notches in the over- all standings this year. But the spring sports have really stepped up overall and there are some great seasons winding up over the next couple of weeks. Would be great to end the year by bringing home one of those elusive national championships. — MichiganFanForLife CONGRATS MICHIGAN LAX! FIRST NCAA WIN IN THEIR FIRST NCAA GAME EVER I've never been much of a lacrosse fan but after watching that game I am all about it. What a game. Go Blue! — Harbaughs Psychedelic Side Beat the defending national champs and runner up on consecutive weekends. Generally dominated both games. Even today. Michigan lacrosse has finally arrived. — scheins HUNTER DICKINSON SAGA CONTINUES AT KANSAS "… says he 'didn't want to leave, but that it took courage to leave his legacy behind to do what's best for himself." — ClaytonSayfie It took a "lot of courage"?? Give me a break. I have zero issue with the man chasing big bucks. I probably would have done the same thing if the facts as we have heard them are correct. But to pat yourself on the back and call it courageous? Just stop. — Carlpoz Tired of his complaining. We get it, but stop with the click-bait crap for your podcast. Enjoy Kansas and just stop talking. Appreciate his time here, but I put him in with Cade and All. GO BLUE! — WestCoastWolverine Don't blame Hunter. Blame the useless NCAA that allows Kansas to blatantly violate the rules while going after Harbaugh for a hamburger. — Jamieh I don't blame him at all. It's a real life decision and I can see having emotions on one side vs. the reality of Michigan having no NIL game when it comes to B-ball. Times have changed and most, if honest, would have made the same decision with a degree in hand. — DallasWolverine Hopefully now this horse is beaten and we don't have to hear about it anymore. Bottom line, it makes perfect sense why Hunter left. That being said, he needs to just move on, as do Michigan fans. — jlubeck WHO WOULD BE THE BETTER QB FOR THE CURRENT TEAM — DENARD OR J.J.? Peak Denard Robinson or what we think J.J. will be this year? Denard is criminally underrated for his impact on the program. Imagine him with Blake Corum in the backfield. Alternatively, imagine J.J. on Denard's teams and the impact he would have. — allenburs J.J., not even close. Denard would be exciting ... but the play action game with J.J. ... and we could use him more running ... but it's his passing threat that gives him the advantage. We have great RBs ... we don't need to rely on the QB to generate our rushing. — B.M.F. I loved Denard and what he did at Michigan, but the LAST thing this year's team needs is more ability to rush the ball, and it is not even a close comparison between J.J. and Denard as to who is the better passer and can get the ball down the field. J.J. hands down. No denying how great Denard was, but the ques- tion is who would be the better QB for this team, and Denard would make this team even more one dimensional than it already is. The one thing Michi- gan is lacking offensively is a dangerous passing game, and non-peak J.J. gives us a better chance at that than peak Denard. — Sasquatch616 I like 'em both! — Harbinator5 June/July 2023 • Vol. 34, No. 12 ISSN 1048-9940 Editor John Borton TheWolverine.com Editor Chris Balas Football Recruiting Editor EJ Holland Staff Writers Clayton Sayfie, Anthony Broome Zach Libby, Drew Hallett Managing Editor Mark Panus Contributing Editors Matt Herb Steve Downey Chris Riffer Layout And Design Jeanette Blankenship Chris Miller Contributing Photographers Lon Horwedel Per Kjeldsen Cover Photo Michigan Photography Publisher Stu Coman Business Manager Linda Autry Circulation Manager Sarah Boone Advertising Sales Michelle DeLee-Hamilton 877-630-8768 Customer Service Cathy Jones, Laura Thornton, Crystal Clayton 800-421-7751 Business Intern Jackson Jones The Wolverine is published monthly.
