48 THE WOLVERINE ❱ JUNE/JULY 2023 ❱ MICHIGAN RECRUITING NOTEBOOK and he displayed tremendous closing speed and natural instincts. Currently the No. 229 prospect and No. 23 safety nationally, he also is a plus athlete at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds who averages more that 15 points per game on the basketball court. There is a lot to love about Jones' game, build and up- side. I think he's a clear top-100 pros- pect and don't understand his recent rankings drop. JADYN DAVIS IS PREPARED FOR SUCCESS ON AND OFF THE FIELD Michigan scored a huge win on the recruiting trail in late March when the Wolverines earned a commitment from their top prize at the quarterback posi- tion —Jadyn Davis. The No. 4 quarterback and No. 28 overall recruit nationally per the On3 Industry Ranking, Davis led Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School to a 12-1 record and a state title. He passed for 3,425 yards and 43 touchdowns in 2022, completing 221 of 305 attempts (72.5 percent). Davis earned state player of the year honors from Gatorade, MaxPreps and High School Football America. According to Providence Day head coach Chad Grier, Davis is a win for Michigan both on and off the field. "Jadyn is fiercely competitive," Grier said. "He wants to be the best — not just the best that he can be, but the best that's ever done it. He's truly a driven kid. He really wants to be exceptional. "I thought he took huge leaps if you look at sophomore film to junior film. He put a lot of work in to get better. He had pure courage in the pocket last year versus having a more flight instinct. He stayed in there and delivered strikes when the clouds turned into thunder. "He made college-level throws. If anybody has any doubts, you can watch his tape last year and realize that there aren't any. "Where he's truly exceptional is the leadership, the humility, the work ethic, the drive and all the intangibles. They are measured with him and palpable. He comes in the room, and he has a com- manding presence. The coaches respond to him, and the kids respond to him." Davis transferred into Providence Day last year after spending his sophomore campaign at Catawba Ridge High in South Carolina. He quickly adapted to Providence Day's scheme and continued to prove he's one of the best signal-call- ers nationally. Now, Grier is expecting his talented quarterback to take another step for- ward. "Every guy that has been a two-year starter in our offense, the leap has been huge," Grier said. "I'll be shocked if Jadyn doesn't have an even better sea- son this year. He just needs to continue to do the things that got him here. "He weighs about 205 now. His body looks fantastic. He attacks the weight room as hard as anything else. He looks like a college quarterback physically. The arm talent is obvious. "Now, it's the mental side and the packaging of it. I think things were hap- pening so fast last year, and he did a great job of getting the ball to our play- makers. This year, I think he's going to take another step." 2024 MICHIGAN COMMITMENTS Player Rating* Pos. Ht. Wt.
