34 CAVALIER CORNER cavalier profile MORGAN SCHWAB Third-Year • Lacrosse In a position often called the "quarterback of the team" for wom- en's lacrosse, Morgan Schwab has made a living setting up goals for the Cavaliers by dishing out assists from behind the goal. Schwab came to Virginia as a highly touted recruit and was a first- year that stepped into the 2021 starting lineup on attack right away. The Fairport, N.Y., native scored 23 goals and had 13 assists in her first season. The next year she really settled into her role with 36 as- sists, which ranked sixth all time in a single season for the Cavaliers. During UVA's NCAA Tournament run, Schwab tied a program single- game record with 7 assists in the win over USC. As a third-year in 2023, she has eclipsed all of those marks from her second-year campaign. Schwab finished the year with 49 assists, which ranks second all time to Lindsay Sheehan's single-season re- cord of 66 assists set in 1986. Sheehan's record ranks 11th all time in NCAA history to this day. Schwab is now sixth in UVA history with 98 career assists. She was second on the team in points (69), scoring 20 goals to go along with her 49 assists in 2023. She ranked sixth nationally on the season in assists and was fourth in the NCAA in assists per game (2.72) as of May 22. "Morgan has really embraced her role and is so important on our attack," head coach Julie Myers said. "Everything on our attack runs through her. She is truly the quarterback and is excellent in finding the cutters and feeding the open player for a goal." Schwab dished out multiple assists in 12 of UVA's 18 games and had 4 or more in six of those contests.
