TRACKING THE PACK JULY/AUGUST 2023 ■ 19 PACK PERFORMERS Kelsey Chmiel, Women's Track and Field The Wolfpack distance-running standout claimed All-America honors in two events at the NCAA Out- door Track and Field Championships in June. Chmiel, a senior from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., placed eighth in the 10,000-meter race, finishing in 33:14.09 on a sweltering evening in Austin, Texas, to earn first-team recognition. The following night, she finished 16th in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 16:08.97, earning a second-team All- America nod. Since 2019, Chmiel has been one of NC State's top performers in both track and cross country. She won the ACC cross country championship in 2021 and has now garnered All-America notice 13 times in her career. Cam Murray, Men's Track and Field Murray got the Wolfpack off to a blazing start at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The graduate student from Atlanta finished his semifinal race in the 110-meter hurdles in a school-record 13.39 seconds. His time was good for sixth place, earning him a spot in the championship round, though he did not finish that race, pulling up after the first hurdle. Murray has shined for NC State ever since transferring from Tennessee in 2019. At the NCAA East Regional last year, he posted the third-fastest time in school his- tory in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 13.70 seconds and placing 21st at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Diana Shnaider, Women's Tennis Shnaider capped a dazzling freshman season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over North Carolina's Reese Brantmeier in the NCAA Tournament team championship. The Mos- cow native supplied NC State with its lone singles vic- tory in a 4-1 loss to the Tar Heels. Shnaider finished the season with a 20-3 record, and eight days after facing Brantmeier, she shined on an even bigger stage, earn- ing a 6-3, 7-5 win over Canada's Rebecca Marino in the first round of the French Open. The 19-year-old Russian, who was later eliminated with a three-set loss to 14th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil in the second round, is believed to be the first active collegian player since 1983 to earn a win at Roland-Garros. Maximilian Steinlechner, Men's Golf Steinlechner concluded his NC State career in May by tying for second place at the NCAA Regional in Morgan Hill, Calif. He shot a 4-under 212 in the three-round event at The Institute Golf Club, the best showing by a Wolfpack golfer at an NCAA Regional since 2012 when Albin Choi took first place in Ann Arbor, Mich. Steinlechner, a senior from Innsbruck, Austria, finished the 2022-23 season with a 70.97 stroke average, which led the team and ranks eighth in program history. Competing in 11 events, he totaled seven top-10 finishes and played 21 of 32 rounds at even or below par. Following the season, Steinlechner was named to the Division I PING All-East Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. 232 South White St. — Downtown Wake Forest WakeForestHardware.com — 919-556-3562 @BWhardware SINCE 1949 NORTH CAROLINA'S PREMIER TRAEGER DEALER
