Senior Kelsey Chmiel also competed in the 5,000, plac- ing 16th with a time of 16:08.97 to earn second-team All- America laurels. The preseason football magazine ranks senior PAYTON WILSON as the nation's fifth-best outside linebacker, while junior Aydan White is eighth among cornerbacks and graduate Bren- nan Armstrong is 23rd among quarterbacks. Lindy's also lists Armstrong as the third-most-impactful quar- terback transfer of the offseason, noting that the former Virginia Cavalier gives NC State a "nice follow-up to the Devin Leary era." Leary, who headed to Kentucky in January, is one spot ahead of his successor, ranking second on the list of high-impact quarter- back transfers. 20 ■ THE WOLFPACKER 1 NC State first-team All-America honoree in Phil Steele's College Football '23 preview maga- zine. The recipient of that honor is graduate long snapper Joe Shimko. A semifinalist last year for the Patrick Mannelly Award, which goes to the nation's top long snapper, Shimko, has never had a bad snap in 475 career attempts. The only other Pack player to earn a preseason All-America nod from Phil Steele this year is junior cornerback Aydan White, who appears on the magazine's third-team defensive squad. The last thing I told them was, I think anything you do in life, you want to pass it on better than when you came into it. I definitely think each year we're starting at a higher level.
