That won't happen in 2023. Sources confirmed to BWI in mid-Au- gust that Ford will miss the upcoming season due to an injury. The 6-foot-2, 287-pound Ford was an honorable mention All-Sun Belt pick in 2022 for the Monarchs. He will be able to use his redshirt season in 2023 and have two more years of eligibility remaining with the Nittany Lions start- ing next year. Ford had been expected to compete for snaps in the back end of Penn State's defensive tackle rotation this fall and vie for a starting spot the following year. His absence doesn't change a lot for the Nittany Lions' plans in 2023. In May, coach James Franklin had said that Ford's addition "gives us, at the very least, another guy who can be in the rotation, who has played against Virginia Tech and Virginia, has played major-college football. There's value in that." Penn State missed on its defensive tackle targets in the first portal window but got a chance for redemption in the spring period. Ford committed to the Nittany Lions in May with the blessing of Old Dominion coach Ricky Rahne, who had previously spent two seasons as offensive coordinator under Franklin at Penn State. Ford arrived at Old Dominion in the class of 2020 out of Varina High School in Richmond, Va. The Monarchs didn't play in 2020 due to the pandemic, and Ford got onto the field with true fresh- man eligibility the following year. A productive player on the interior, he had 74 tackles, including 8.5 for loss and 4 sacks, in two seasons at ODU. — Sean Fitz
