On the court in 2022, the Wolverines finished with a 17-13 record and an 8-12 mark in conference play. TOP THREE ATHLETES Redshirt senior Hannah Grant — The All-Big Ten second-team selection appeared in and started all 30 matches, one of four U-M players to start every match. Grant averaged 4.43 digs per set, ranking third in the Big Ten. She also led U-M with 44 service aces and 1.11 assists and 0.41 service aces per set, which were second in the Big Ten. Senior Allison Jacobs — An aca- demic All-Big Ten selection and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, she appeared in 22 matches, starting seven times and av- eraging 1.24 kills per set on a .134 hitting percentage. Sophomore Serena Nyambio — She appeared in 25 matches, playing 71 sets and collecting 89 kills and 57 blocks as a true freshman. Nyambio made her first career start against Ohio State and had a career-high 8 kills in a match against Purdue. Don't Miss: vs. Ohio State (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Oct. 29 MEN'S GOLF First Event: Island Resort Intercol- legiate vs. South Dakota State (Bark River, Mich.), Sept. 3-4 Season Outlook: U-M will play a five- event schedule during the 2023-24 season after finishing 13th in the Big Ten last sea- son. Redshirt senior Jack O'Donnell and senior Will Anderson finished 46th and 53rd, respectively, at the Big Ten Cham- pionships and return to lead the squad throughout the 2023-24 campaign. TOP THREE ATHLETES Senior Will Anderson — One of two U-M men's golfers to start all 12 tournaments, Anderson helped the squad to six top-five finishes last season. He was second on the squad with a 73.59 scor- ing average and posted a team-best 16 rounds of par-or-better with eight sub- par rounds and one sub-70. Senior Jude Kim — He played in 11 tournaments with nine starts and led U-M as an individual last fall at the Little Rock Invitational. Kim averaged 75.34 strokes per round, posting six rounds of par-or-better with five subpar rounds. Junior Hunter Thomson — He joined Anderson as the two Wolverines with starts in all 12 events, lead- ing U-M in a team-best seven events with four top-10 fin- ishes. Thomson also led the Wolverines with a career-low 72.81 strokes per round, post- ing 13 rounds of par-or-better with nine rounds under par. WOMEN'S GOLF First Event: Mary Fos- sum Invitational vs. Michigan State (East Lansing, Mich), Sept. 17-18 Season Outlook: U-M finished the 2022-23 season tied for sixth in the Big Ten Champion- ships, and its 2023-24 slate gets going this fall with five events. The squad will be led by fifth-year Hailey Borja, senior Monet Chun and sophomore Lauren Sung. TOP THREE ATHLETES Fifth-year Hailey Borja — She has not missed a start or tournament in her U-M career, starting 39 consecutive contests. Borja is a four-time All-Big Ten selection (first team, 2022; second team 2020-21, 2023). She recorded four top- 10 finishes last season while leading U-M in five events. Borja tied for 17th at the NCAA Regional individually. This past summer, she advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur at the Bel Air Country Club in Los Angeles. Senior Monet Chun — Chun re- corded two top-10 finishes last season, led U-M in three events and tied for 13th at the NCAA Regional. Last season also included an appearance at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, where she tied for 14th after being the third Wol- verine selected for the event, joining Hailey Borja and Ashley Lau (2022). Sophomore Lauren Sung — She played in 10 tournaments last season with nine starts, averaging 75.86 strokes per round. Sung had 12 rounds at or be- low 75, four rounds of par-or-better and one sub-par showing. She tied for 30th at the Big Ten Championships individu- ally. Don't Miss: Stanford Intercollegiate (Palo Alto, Calif.), Oct. 21-22 ❏ The U-M women's volleyball team enters the 2023 season with new leadership in head coach Erin Virtue, who returns to Ann Arbor after serving as recruiting and offensive coordinator from 2011-15.
