BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM NOV. 25, 2023 37 GAME PREVIEW: STANFORD Parker, who has come under fire as of late with the offense's struggles. Stanford does not have a Broyles nominee, but Taylor and his staff had this team competing in a couple games that had no business being as close as they were. A 43-33 loss to No. 5 Washington stands out. Advantage: Even INTANGIBLES I'm not going to play the "Notre Dame has more to play for" card, because even though Stanford can't get to 6-6 and be bowl eligible, everyone in Palo Alto, Calif., would love to end their season with a win over the Irish. The future ACC member (in 2024 along with Cal and SMU) will come out and be ready to go. Notre Dame has struggled on the road as of late, with crushing losses to Clemson and Louisville. Before that, the Irish were a fourth-and-16 away from falling to Duke. Stanford is unlike those road environments in that Clemson, Louisville and Duke fans all filled their respective stadiums when the Irish came to town. Stanford fans typically don't do that, especially in lost seasons. The deciding factor in this category is going to be experience, and Notre Dame has much, much more of it than Stanford. The Cardinal might be tough to deal with if Daniels, Ayomanor and some of their other promising young players stay for two or three more years and continue to improve. But for now, the Irish should run away with this one. Advantage: Notre Dame Senior Joshua Karty was a 2022 finalist for the Lou Groza Award as the best kicker in college football. This season, he is 17 of 20 (85.0 percent) on field goal attempts. PHOTO COURTESY STANFORD ATHLETICS OFFENSE Pos. No. Name Ht. Wt. Yr.
