It was the first home sellout in program history for the Wolfpack, who were ranked fourth nationally heading into the matchup. The Cowboys were ranked ninth at the time, and while they pulled off a 22-12 victory, NC State's stand- out redshirt senior Trent Hidlay brought the crowd to its feet with the e vening's most dominant performance, a 19-4 techni- cal fall over Jersey Robb at 197 pounds. I think the runaway winner is NC State. If you think back to the end of football season, Dave Doeren is mak- ing his stump speech about how 'We need more support, we need our collective to be well funded.' … Well, he's putting his money where his mouth is now. They got some investment, and they are using it very wisely." — David Hale, ESPN college football reporter, citing NC State's incoming transfer class as the league's best during an appearance on the ACC Network He's a guy that just calms you down. When I'm upset and every- body else on the floor is upset, the only guy on the floor that looks like he can win the poker game is Michael, and that's what you want in a point guard." — Men's basketball coach Kevin Keatts on his decision to promote graduate guard MICHAEL O'CONNELL to the Pack's starting lineup Anybody that comes to the UNC-NC State match every year, you kind of get reminded of the dif- ference between the two programs. We're disciplined, we do things the right way, we wrestle hard and we expose them when it comes time to [compete in] a dual meet. … It always feels good to put the beatdown on them in the home gym." — Redshirt senior 197-pound wrestler Trent Hidlay, following NC State's 33-6 romp over the Tar Heels on Feb. 2 at Reynolds Coliseum 71 Points by NC State men's basketball signee PAUL MCNEIL in Richmond Senior High's 118-52 victory over Lee County on Jan. 16. McNeil broke a 74-year- old North Carolina High School Athletic Association record with his scoring binge, in which he hit 28 of 49 field goal attempts, including 10 three-pointers. The record-setting performance raised his scoring average to 33.9 points per game, tops in the state this season. The previous single-game record of 67 points was set by Bob Poole of Clayton High in 1950. PHOTO COURTESY NC STATE ATHLETICS PHOTO COURTESY NC STATE ATHLETICS
