He flew around the field for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College as a sopho- more and could challenge for early play- ing time after enrolling in January. The staff could also shore up the po- sition group by moving redshirt junior Sean Brown from safety to linebacker. That will be something to monitor in spring practice. Will The Transfer Receivers Earn Starting Roles? NC State has welcomed three transfer pass catchers — wideouts Noah Rog- ers from Ohio State and Wesley Grimes from Wake Forest, and tight end Jus- tin Joly from Connecticut. Any or all of them could start this fall. At 6-foot-3, 235 pounds, Joly fits the flex-Y mold — a wide receiver/tight end hybrid. The junior touts his ability to gain yards after the catch. While with the Huskies last year, he hauled in 56 receptions for 578 yards and 2 touch- downs. Grimes, who chose the Demon Dea- cons over the Pack out of high school as the nation's No. 36 recruit, emerged as a productive outside receiver during his sophomore campaign, catching 20 passes for 339 yards and 4 touchdowns. For much of last season, the Wolfpack lacked a consistent outside receiver who could win 50/50 balls. Grimes is a can- didate to fill that role.
