A redshirt senior from Lewistown, Pa., Hidlay showed that his lofty ranking was well deserved in a 17-2 technical fall over No. 23 Max Shaw of North Carolina on Feb. 2 at Reynolds Coliseum. In the weeks to come, Hidlay will be looking to close out his college career by becoming a four-time ACC champ and a five-time All-American. And he'll be angling for his shot at Brooks, a three-time NCAA champ at 184 pounds before moving up to 197 this year. Aziaha James, Women's Basketball The Wolfpack was on a roll heading into the final weeks of the regular season, and James was a big part of its surge back to ACC title contention. The junior guard from Virginia Beach, Va., scored a game- high 28 points in NC State's 77-67 win over 15th-ranked Louisville on Feb. 5 in Raleigh, including 20 points in the first half to help the Pack build a 17-point lead. Through 24 games, James was lead- ing the team and ranked ninth in the ACC with a 15.4-point scoring average. She was also third on the Wolfpack in both assists (68) and steals (24). Emily Shepard, Gymnastics Shepard claimed the all-around title in NC State's 196.300-195.600 victory over host Clemson on Feb. 2. The graduate student from Olathe, Kan., posted a four-event total of 39.350 points, helping the Wolfpack hand the Tigers their first-ever loss after they had opened their inaugural season with three consecutive dual meet wins. Included in her total was a 9.900 in the floor exercise, the 41st 9.9-or-above score of her career with the Wolfpack, a program record. Prior to facing Clemson, Shepard won ACC Gymnast of the Week honors after capturing the all-around title against Pitt on Jan. 26 with a score of 39.475. Kacper Stokowski, Men's Swimming Stokowski, a two-time national cham- pion, has twice won ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week honors this year. The fifth-year senior from Warsaw, Poland, was a key part of third-ranked NC State's 130-92 victory over No. 9 Texas on Jan. 26. He turned in a personal-best time of 1:32.91 in the 200- yard freestyle, while also recording season bests in the 50- and 100-yard backstroke events with times of 21.54 and 44.37 sec- onds, respectively. The previous week at Virginia, Stokowski contributed to pool-record performances by the Wolfpack in the 400 medley relay (3:07.89) and 400 freestyle relay (2:52.05).
