He was named the Gato- rade Ohio Player of the Year in Ohio as a junior and followed that up by earning the prestigious Ohio Mr. Football award as a senior. Like his future position coach, Mar- shall will have a chance to make an im- mediate impact at Michigan as a true freshman and be the next bell cow for a powerful U-M rushing attack. "He's a complete back and can do ev- erything that you're looking for," said Mark Elder, who was a graduate assis- tant at Michigan in 2006 and coached Marshall as a junior at Moeller. "He's great in pass protection and is physical, tough and strong. He can be kept in on third downs when you need him to protect and pick up blitzes. He's smart when recognizing schemes. He's just a weapon out of the backfield. He has great hands. You can flex him out or even throw it to him out of the back- field. He's really good in that regard. "As a runner, he has all of the tools you look for. He has great vision and patience. He's fast. He can run by you. He can run over you. He can make you miss. There's not an aspect of his game that's lacking right now." Aside from his on-the-field talents, Marshall does all the little things right. From 4:30 a.m. workouts with a pri- vate trainer to going the extra mile in the weight room to battling through injuries, Marshall is a tough kid who is willing to put the extra work in to be great. Marshall embodies the blue-collar mentality that Michigan is famous for, making him a perfect fit for the pro- gram and a candidate to be a future team captain. "The kid is an absolute warrior," said Moeller head coach Bert Bathiany. "I don't know too many kids who can do what he does. He's a freak of an athlete and a freak of a human being. He checks all the boxes and does a really good job. "When he's out there, he plays with a lot of confidence. He practices every day and doesn't take reps off. Some kids might wear a red jersey ,and you don't touch them, but he practices. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, he's out there in his gear practicing. He's all gas and no brakes. "You have a high-level program and a high-level human being doing high-level things. High achievers attract high achiev- ers. That's why Michigan wants a player like Jordan, and that's why Jordan wants to go to a program like Michigan." ❑ Marshall rushed 255 times for 1,554 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior at Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller, averaging 6.1 yards per carry and 119.5 yards per game. THEY SAID IT On3 director of scou ng and rankings Charles Power: "I think Marshall will probably even be a heavier guy than Blake Corum once he gets to work with Michigan's strength and con- di oning program. We like him a lot. He's a really good player — a guy who runs in-between the tackles and plays against great compe on in the Cincinna Greater Catholic League. He has a pre y strong overall skill set. If you're picking a running back in this class who would be a good fit at Michigan, he would be among the few good ones, in terms of his style."
