BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM JUNE/JULY 2024 27 There are other juniors who haven't fully solidified their roles yet either. Aamil Wagner could start at right tackle. He could also stand on the sideline for another season and watch graduate student Tosh Baker start there. Billy Schrauth is in the same boat. He started at right guard the final three games for an injured Rocco Spindler last season, but Spindler could very well come back fully healthy in fall camp and take his starting spot back. Is Jadarian Price Notre Dame's No. 1 tailback or is it Jeremiyah Love? Dif- ferent parts of spring ball yielded dif- ferent answers. The most likely way it plays out is a 1A/1B split that affords almost equal opportunity, but we won't really know until the season gets going and rep shares become public. Fellow junior running back Gi'Bran Payne will find out with the rest of us how many touches he's going to get per game, too. The most notable junior with "up in the air" status is certainly Steve An- geli, a quarterback who has one sector of the fan base calling for him to be QB1 over Duke transfer Riley Leonard and another saying he's actually fourth in the signal-caller pecking order behind Leonard, sophomore Kenny Minchey and freshman CJ Carr. Of course, there are plenty of people in between who believe his rightful place is serving as Leonard's backup. The thing with Angeli is all of those scenarios are in play. In short, he's be- come an enigma in the eye of anyone who follows Notre Dame football. Everybody's got a take. Angeli isn't focused on anyone but himself and who he plays for, though. "I'm looking to just keep going, keep working," he said. It'll be interesting to see how the sea- son unfolds for the quarterback who's answered the bell almost every time he's been thrown into games, from Sneed, the highest-rated recruit in Notre Dame's 2022 class, appears primed to have his best season yet in 2024.
