C O M Penn State will frequently use three safeties this fall, and the 6-0, 210-pound Reed is probably the guy who will move around the most. We expect to see him in a hybrid role similar to what we thought the "star" position would look like in for- mer coordinator Bob Shoop's defense. There's more linebacker to it, but he also has the versatility to roll back and play in coverage. He doesn't have the natural ball skills that Ji'Ayir Brown had when playing a similar role, but Reed should be able to do a number of things that Brown was asked to do in 2022. It will be fun to watch that position develop. ■ The Blue-White Game gave us a snapshot of Penn State's depth chart coming out of spring practice. For reference, we're assuming that the first and fourth teams played on the White squad, and the Blue was made up of the second and third teams, plus freshmen. There were instances in which the coaching staff made manual adjustments, and a number of players did not see action in the spring game due to an injury or a decision by the staff to hold them out. Several prominent players are included on the depth chart below even though they did not take part in the game.
