22 THE WOLVERINE ❱ SEPTEMBER 2024 yourself, and the guy next to you, the guy across from you, and see what he's really about. That's the beauty of the game, and especially fall camp." NO. 44'S ROLE There's no question Bredeson will once again be called upon as a hit man. But he might be more, depending on his development and Michigan's needs. Tuttle alluded to his hands, and Brede- son has shown flashes of being able to receive, rather than just dishing it out. Campbell appreciates the blocks that spring others, of course, but noted those might not tell the tight end/fullback's full story in 2024. "Max Bredeson, another player we considered a starter last season in his role," Campbell said. "Max is a glue player, not just from a mentality, the way he plays, but how he is around the players. He's got a good way about him — smart, intelligent, great energy, great player. He's developed his game to not just be the plug fullback. He wants to be part of the pass game. He's worked on that and we'll see where we're able to go with that." Bredeson welcomes the new OC, and certainly doesn't expect the tight ends to diminish under his leadership. "He's awesome," Bredeson said of Campbell. "He's a great guy, great coach. He's so passionate about Michigan. It's awesome seeing him do what he does, and he's so great about what he does. It's a cool experience to be a part of. "Michigan always uses tight ends, as kind of a staple. He's always used tight ends wherever he's been. He's just a great offensive mind who does a great job of not being so set on what has worked. He tries to find out what will work best with what we have." That said, Bredeson comes to the field without demands or any personal ex- pectations. "Whatever Michigan needs me to do to help win, I'm always there," he said. "I'm ready for the opportunity. I think it's great that I get to develop as a tight end every day. Most fullbacks come from a running back tree, and I come in from a tight end tree." Some of Bredeson's confidence comes from continuity. Yes, Harbaugh's en- thusiasm unknown to mankind caught a flight to the West Coast, but Moore Bredeson earned Michigan's Offensive Player of the Game honors three times last season, despite catching only 2 passes for 19 yards on the campaign.
