(Central) RECRUITING NOTES • On Oct. 2, Deuce Knight's interest in Auburn finally came to a head. That day, the four-star quarterback from Lucedale (Miss.) George County finally flipped his verbal commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn. Knight, On3's No. 6 quarterback and No. 33 overall player in the 2025 class, had been pledged to the Fighting Irish since Sept. 18, 2023. Over the last 13 months, Knight had mentioned several times that he was com- municating with coaches from Alabama, Auburn, Colorado and Ole Miss. Still, he never reported any opposing visits to those schools … until July 27. Auburn hosted him on campus for its "Big Cat Weekend" before the August dead period. Then, it welcomed him back for four games this season, including most recently for the Oklahoma game Sept. 27, which was an official visit. Knight's decision to decommit from the Irish leaves them without a quarter- back in the 2025 class. There are no signs of that changing soon. Since Knight began visiting Auburn, no quarterback recruit has announced an offer from Notre Dame. Still, the Irish will likely aim to sign a high school passer in this cycle. • On Oct. 9, another prospect from the South revealed the Irish are no longer a part of his recruitment. Covington (Ga.) Alcovy defensive lineman Timothy Griffin announced a top eight of Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Georgia State, Ole Miss, Tulane and West Virginia. In September, Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington offered the 6-5, 255-pound Griffin — On3's No. 110 prospect in Georgia and No. 90 defensive lineman in the nation in the 2025 class. However, the Irish have since decided to turn their attention toward other targets. • One of those recruits is Florida commit Jalen Wiggins. The Tallahassee (Fla.) James Rickards product, Wiggins is rated as a four-star recruit, the No. 14 player in Florida, and the No. 10 defensive lineman and No. 95 overall prospect nationally in the 2025 class. On Oct. 9, he told On3 director of recruiting Chad Simmons that he is considering a trip to South Bend. The Irish hope to host Wiggins on campus for the Florida State game Nov. 9. — Kyle Kelly Lucedale (Miss.)
