BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM NOV. 30, 2024 5 FAN FORUM WE STAND CORRECTED In the last issue of Blue & Gold Illustrated, we highlighted sophomore safety Luke Talich in both Fan Forum on page 5 and They Said It on page 11 for being the first player from Wyoming to score a touchdown for Notre Dame. In retrospect, it would have been more accurate to state that Talich was the first-ever player born and raised in Wyoming to score a touchdown for the Irish. BGI reader Mike Felix called us to point out that he went to high school with Wyoming native Jack Snow, who was a wide receiver at Notre Dame from 1962-64. Snow, who was a three- sport star in football, baseball and basketball at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, Calif., before heading to South Bend, was born in Rock Springs, Wyo. Snow scored his first touchdown with the Irish on a rushing attempt in 1963. Then — after recording just 10 receptions for 128 yards and 3 rushing attempts for 26 yards and the 1 score over 19 games during his first two seasons in South Bend — he exploded onto the scene during the 1964 campaign, setting single-season school records for receptions (60), receiving yards (1,114 yards) and receiving touchdowns (9) to help the Irish to a 9-1 record and No. 3 national ranking in head coach Ara Parseghian's first season in charge. He more than doubled the old record for receiving yards in a season and racked up 19 more receptions in one season than any previous Notre Dame player. Snow also set school records for receiving yards in a game (217, versus Wisconsin) and career receiving yards (1,242). BE HEARD! Box 2331, Durham, NC 27702 Despite going into the season with six combined starts among the five offensive line starters, multiple injuries thereafter and subsequent shuf- fling of starters, Notre Dame was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Joe Moore Award, which is bestowed annually upon the best offensive line in college football. On our message board on BlueandGold.com, Irish fans discussed why they are excited for what the future holds for a young group that will be adding even more talent in 2025. The following is an excerpt from that conversation. B'MoreIrish: Should be dominant. And for several years to come. Several guys that should have been backups ended up getting a lot of game snaps. The current starting line is getting better so you'll have that as a base plus you add: [Ashton] Craig back from injury; [Charles] Jagusah back from injury; [Guerby] Lambert has a full year under his belt; [2025 recruits] [Will] Black, [Owen] Strebig [Matty] Augustine; and [Cameron] Herron. I think I saw that this year's OL is nominated for Joe Moore award. 3 or 4 of them may be backups next year. LOADED!!! BlessedMother: The talent combined with the strength and conditioning and development/coaching barring injuries will result in an elite O-line for some time to come. Game in and game out, I am impressed with O-line's stamina and strength. Kcndmis97: Next year's OL will be a good problem to have for the coaches. The key things to look for are: - How does Lambert develop? Can he start? - How does Jags recover? Does he have the strength to start? - What is [Anthonie] Knapp's best position? - How long before Craig is truly back to himself? Java65: I really think we might see Knapp at OC. Unless I'm completely mistaken, Craig won't be back for spring and that means they'll likely try somebody there, and I think it might be Knapp. I know fans are quick to move Jagusah but the coaches never even hinted about making LT a competition because they were sold on him at LT. They gave [Tosh] Baker a shot to start but that was at RT, never at LT. Irishchef3: I have posted this before but the OL I want for next season is a fixture of Charles Jagusah, Guerby Lambert, Billy Schrauth, Ashton Craig and Aamil Wagner. As a group that might be the most athletically gifted group ND has had in a while. My initial feeling is Guerby Lambert at LT, Charles Jagusah at LG, Ashton Craig at C, Billy Schrauth at RG, and Aamil Wagner at RT. That gets the best five on the field. I think it's important that Pat Coogan comes back for depth at center. And two players who deserve playing time are Sullivan Absher and Anthonie Knapp, but I don't think they are as talented as those 5. And it's possible Sam Pendleton or Anthonie Knapp never start again after this season, which is wild to say. Charles Jagusah will determine a lot this spring. Former Irish wide receiver Jack Snow attended high school in Long Beach, Calif., but was actually born in Rock Springs, Wyo., making him the first player from that state to score a touchdown for Notre Dame.
