30 CAVALIER CORNER & Party At Palmer This fall, the Virginia Athletics Foundation and Virginia Softball hosted the inaugural Party at Palmer event. Over 250 donors, alumni, season ticket holders, and fans attended an intersquad fall scrimmage on Saturday, October 19th as the team prepared for their upcoming spring season. Leading up to the scrimmage, VAF hosted an online silent auction to help raise funds for the Soft- ball Enhancement Fund. After the scrimmage, attendees were welcomed on to the field for auto- graphs, photos, and an exclusive behind-the-scenes facility tour. Head coach Joanna Hardin was very excited and thankful for the support the team received at the event, stating "our staff and student-athletes are so thankful to have so many donors, alumni, and fans show up to support us at Party at Palmer. This event was a great opportunity for us to engage with our biggest supporters during the off season. Their support means so much to us, and we are excited about the upcoming season." Men's Soccer Reunion During Homecomings weekend the Virginia Men's Soccer program welcomed back a handful of championship teams to Charlottes- ville. The weekend kicked off with an alumni tailgate prior to the match versus Virginia Tech on Friday, October 4. More than 70 alumni with their friends and family then made their way to Klöckner to cheer on the Hoos. Dur- ing halftime, ACC championship teams from 1969, 1970, 1984, 1994, and 2004 along with NCAA National Championship teams from 1994 and 2014 were recognized in front of fans. The 1994 squad beat top-seeded Indiana 1-0 in the championship game for Virginia's unprecedented fourth consecutive NCAA Championship. The 2014 Cavaliers entered the tournament as a 16th seed and made an impressive run to the title game where they defeated the second-seeded UCLA team in penalty kicks to win the pro- gram's seventh national championship. After the recognition, alumni enjoyed watching the Hoos go on to beat Virginia Tech 2-1. The weekend of celebration continued Saturday with a full day of events, starting with a round of golf at Birdwood's par-3 course. Alumni then watched the football team score 24 unanswered points in the second half to come from behind to beat Boston College. The day was capped off with an alumni reception at Boar's Head Resort. Alumni interacted with Head Coach George Gelnovatch and heard an update from him on the state of the program and how impactful the support of the alumni base is. Gordon Burris was recognized for his support of the program, dating back to his time as head coach from 1966-1970 and continuing with ongoing support. Bella Cabral interacting with fans at Party at Palmer. Members of the 2004 ACC Championship team being recognized on field.
