56 THE WOLVERINE ❱ JANUARY 2025 BY CHRIS BALAS M ichigan basketball's 2025 early signing class included a trio of top-100 players On3 called one of the six "under-the-radar collections of tal- ent in the country." "Dusty May identified players that fit his system with an emphasis on tough- ness and skill," On3 wrote, with Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary's shooting guard Trey McKenney (6-4, 205, the No. 21 player nationally in the On3 Industry Ranking) leading the way. "He's the headliner, the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year in Michigan. "[Auckland, New Zealand's] Oscar Goodman (6-7, 225, No. 99 overall per On3's own rankings) had a very strong showing in the U17 FIBA World Cup this summer, and [Winters] Grady is a 6-6 wing [out of Lake Oswego, Ore., playing at Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif.] who av- eraged more than 19 points while shoot- ing close to 40 percent from three on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this summer." Grady, the nation's No. 53 overall prospect according to On3, was the first of the three pledges, committing to the Wolverines Oct. 18. "Winters is a flat-out competitor," May said. "He is tailor-made for how we want to play at Michigan. His ability to shoot the ball is one of the reasons he's an ideal fit. His versatility and physi- cality, on both the offense and defense end, will allow him to be a factor for us right away. "The more we dug in and got to know him and his family, the more we realized that this a guy that we need to have in our program." Grady averaged 19.5 points per game on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit playing for Jalen Green Elite, shooting 57 percent from the field and 37 percent from be- yond the arc. He finished in the league's top 10 in scoring and efficiency. An out- standing shooter, he also converted on 45.6 percent of his 79 three-point at- tempts in 13 games during his junior season. McKenney, ranked as high as No. 18 and a five-star recruit by ESPN, is the top player in the state of Michigan. "Trey embodies everything it means to be a Michigan Man," May said. "He comes from a family of strong faith and high character. He has been taught how to play the game the right way and val- ues competition. His versatility as a big, strong guard is going to be a tremen- dous asset to our program."
