68 MARCH 2025 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED 2025 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE BY KYLE KELLY B randon Logan's unassuming de- meanor accurately reflected his re- served Notre Dame football recruitment. When Fort Wayne (Ind.) Snider's Lo- gan, On3's No. 8 player in Indiana and No. 21 safety nationally, announced his verbal commitment to the Fighting Irish on Aug. 10, 2024, there was no ceremony, video package or major advertisement. He chose to publicize his decision by posting a graphic on social media. It fit the 5-foot-11, 186-pounder's profile perfectly. Logan is humble yet quietly confident in his abilities. He lets his play on the football field and base- ball diamond speak for itself. "I've been trying to focus on what's at hand — being present," Logan told Blue & Gold Illustrated before the 2024 sea- son. "Not worrying about all the stuff that doesn't matter." Logan's "stuff" included expanding on his decision to play football and baseball for Notre Dame instead of Vanderbilt. It also encompassed discussing the dif- ficulty behind his potential decision to play in Major League Baseball if one of the 30 clubs drafts him in July. While college football programs began courting him as a top defensive back pros- pect in spring 2024, he has been a high- profile baseball recruit for a few years. Vanderbilt, which has appeared in the College World Series twice since 2019, iden- tified him before his sophomore year and secured his verbal com- mitment in June 2022. But that was before Logan became one of the top football play- ers in Indiana, posting 95 tackles and 6 in- terceptions during his state championship junior season. Iowa and Indiana eventually offered him a full-ride football scholarship a few months later in the spring. Notre Dame officially joined the mix June 28, about four weeks after his standout performance at the pro- gram's Irish Invasion camp. His showing in South Bend in June was anything but ordinary. Before rou- tinely blanketing receivers in one-on- ones, Logan posted a 4.44-second 40- yard dash, 4.16-second 20-yard shuttle and a 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump. Logan's 40 time would have ranked third at this year's NFL Scouting Com- bine, and his broad jump would have tied for sixth. Only one safety partici- pated in the 20-yard s h u t t l e . H o w e v e r, Logan's 4.16-second mark would have tied him for 16th among 89 participants. M e a n w h i l e , a c - cording to the base- ball scouting service Perfect Game, Logan is a level-10 prospect, which means he could be a very high draft pick and/or elite-level college prospect. He is a five-star prospect in football recruiting terms, and his Per- fect Game grade is the highest possible. It ranks him as a top-100 high school baseball player nationally. However, Logan is not worried about how being selected in the MLB Draft would affect his possible college foot- ball career. After all, the latter is just getting started. "I've thought about it for sure," he said. "But I'm just trying to focus on the present." ✦ Logan, who On3 rates as the No. 8 player in Indiana and No. 21 safety nationally, is also a very talented outfielder prospect with MLB potential. THEY SAID IT Head coach Marcus Freeman: "I want to see Brandon Logan play baseball. I love multi-sport guys. It keeps you busy, keeps you in shape. "We've got some multi-sport athletes here at Notre Dame, guys playing football and playing baseball and lacrosse. We love that and put tre- mendous value on it." On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power: "Logan has shown some encouraging traits and skills as a football prospect. He has good size at around 5-11½, 6-foot with plus length for the position. He's a very good athlete — running in the 4.4s in the 40-yard dash — and he's highly coordi- nated and skilled as a top baseball player. "You can see that it translates to the field. He has good instincts and jumps routes well. He's got the overall ball skills you like to see at the position. Logan is also a willing tackler; he doesn't shy away from contact. He drives through the ball carrier. "Logan has the physical attributes and skill set, and he's only going to get better when he spends more time with football."
