MARCH 2025 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS ❱ Getting To Know Wrestling Sophomore Sergio Lemley Sergio Lemley was a three-time state champion at Mount Carmel (Ill.) High and was an NCAA qualifier at 141 pounds as a freshman in 2023-24. This season, he's ranked No. 12 in the nation at 141 pounds by InterMat. Following the Feb. 7 meet at Penn State, the Chesterton, Ind., native had a 14-7 overall record. Here are some things about Lemley that you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From Chesterton, Ind.: "Small-town vibes. They're definitely immaculate. And it's right on the water, so the summer there is pretty nice." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "Top of the line, Chop House. But overall, Stray Hen." Best Meal He Can Cook By Himself: "I stick with the basics. I'll do ground beef and sweet potatoes." Favorite Professional Athlete: "My overall favorite is Michael Jordan. But in the era that I've watched, [Minnesota Timberwolves guard] Anthony Edwards is pretty electric." Sport He Enjoys Besides Wrestling: "I played a lot of street basketball and hockey." Favorite Movie: "'War Dogs.'" Favorite TV Show: "'Entourage.' I finished it in a week and a half over the sum- mer." Why He Chose Michigan: "From all of the other schools that I looked at, I vetted them all, and I felt that Michigan was a university that represented me. It was closest to what I wanted and my personality, and I thought it was the best stepping stone to what I want to do in life." What He Hopes To Do After Michigan: "I want to be a business owner. That's one of my big goals for when this is all said and done. It really doesn't matter [what kind of business]. I think I'm a good person to help lead other people. I think being a business owner really capitalizes on that." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "It's kind of hard to top a football national championship." Overall Experience At Michigan: "It's definitely different from what I expected it to be. But I think it's part of the process of growth, and that's why I came here. I really wanted to come in and be at least a four-time All-American, and I didn't All- American last year. I wanted to get into Ross [School of Business] my freshman year, and I didn't get into Ross. Dealing with those turns that I have to make, I think really helps me grow as a person." — Clayton Sayfie Lemley placed fourth at 141 pounds at the Big Ten Championships in 2024 and was ranked No. 12 in the nation through mid-February this season.
