C O M Florence Caron — Women's Track And Field Caron set a Penn State record in the indoor 5-kilo- meter race at the David Hemery Valentine Invite Feb. 15 in Boston. The senior middle-distance runner from La Malbaie, Quebec, shaved more than 3 seconds off the school record when she finished in 15:25.83. It was the fourth-fastest time among collegiate runners at the event and was 12th-fastest in a field that included more than 100 competitors. The previous indoor 5K school record (15:28.99) belonged to Tessa Barrett and had stood since 2017. Caron, a two-time All-American, also owns the school record in the outdoor 5K race with a time of 15:32.22. Ajani Dwyer — Men's Track And Field Competing as a collegian in a field that included nu- merous professional sprinters, Dwyer impressed in the USATF Indoor Championships Feb. 23 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in New York. A freshman from Sewell, N.J., Dwyer turned in a 6.54-second time in the 60-meter dash, setting a personal best and tying the Penn State indoor record that Cheickna Traore set last year. It was the fastest time in any of the three preliminary heats. Dwyer went on to place sixth in the final, finishing in 6.61 seconds in his first appearance at the USATF Indoor Championships. Tessa Janecke — Women's Ice Hockey Janecke finished the regular season as the Atlantic Hockey America conference's statistical leader in nearly every major offensive category. Janecke, who became Penn State's all-time points leader in January, had 21 goals and 27 assists in 34 games. The junior forward from Orangeville, Ill., totaled 48 points, took 196 shots, won 68.9 percent of her faceoffs and had a +31 plus- minus rating. All of those figures led the AHA. With Janecke leading the way, Penn State scored 123 goals during the regular season. Only three Division I teams — Wisconsin (174), Colgate (126) and Clarkson (124) — scored more. Paxton Kling — Baseball Kling was batting .440 through Penn State's first six games, with 5 home runs, 9 RBI and a 1.080 slugging percentage. In a Feb. 22 doubleheader against Long- wood, Kling homered twice in the first game, including a 3-run shot in the fourth inning to help the Lions romp to an 11-1 victory. In the nightcap, he was part of a 4-homer barrage that staked PSU to an early lead on its way to a 10-0 win. The following day, Kling opened the scoring in the series finale with a solo homer to center field. The junior outfielder from Roaring Spring, Pa., finished with 3 hits in 5 at-bats, leading the Lions to a 15-7 victory. — Matt Herb PENN STATE'S TOP PERFORMERS NEW! BWI Wrestling Show!
