pecking order coming out of spring ball.
Now, the question is, who's going to be
hot on his tail?
There's been an anointment by many
of Carr as not just Angeli's backup but
the full-on starter. Somebody's got to
say not so fast. Why not me? Why not
Minchey? I've got Minchey, not Carr, as
QB2 by mid-April. We're all overlooking
him in this race, and I'm here to give the
third-year signal-caller his due. And if
he is second in line, that might be the
only way to prevent any of the quarter-
backs from transferring.
Staff writer Jack Soble: Angeli will
begin spring practice as QB1, and he'll
probably end spring practice as QB1.
However, Notre Dame likes to make
these changes to its depth chart over the
summer. If I had to guess, I would say
Carr will enter fall camp with the ones
and be named the starter shortly after.
I'm saying this with about 52.4 percent
certainty. Angeli has absolutely earned
his shot to start. He'll have every oppor-
tunity to win the job. But I can't get past
the pocket awareness Carr showed last
spring, as well as the touch he puts on
his second and third-level throws. The
former is a weakness for Angeli, which is
why he takes too many sacks.
Ultimately, I think the Irish will opt
for Carr's short and long-term upside.
But they won't finalize that decision
until fall camp. As for Minchey, I don't
think he'll be a factor in the competition
but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

After the spring, I predict Marcus Free-
