26 THE WOLVERINE ❱ APRIL 2025 M ichigan head coach Sherrone Moore received good news when he learned Wink Martindale would be back for a second year as defensive co- ordinator after flirting with the NFL. He also made several other hires expected to bolster his coaching staff in his second year at the helm. In addition to updated roles and job ti- tles for the football support staff, Moore hired a familiar face — former U-M quar- terback Jack Tuttle — to join his staff. He'll be an assistant wide receivers coach along with former Michigan player and receivers coach Erik Campbell, another winter hire announced as a member of the staff. Tuttle appeared in 23 games with six starts during his seven-year college ca- reer. He completed 149 of 249 passes (59.8 percent) for 1,337 yards, 7 touch- downs and 8 interceptions. Last season at Michigan, Tuttle connected on 30 of 50 throws for 306 yards with 1 touch- down, 2 interceptions and 2 lost fumbles before medically retiring from football in late October. "It's been a blessing," the 6-foot- 4, 211-pounder said on the "In the Trenches" podcast with former Michi- gan lineman Jon Jansen. "From the time I got to Michigan, I had a passion for foot- ball, and I wanted to help the team win a national championship. I also had a goal of coaching someday. I knew I was an older guy, and whatever happened with my football career playing was going to happen. "Afterwards, I wanted to become a coach, and that's why I came here — to learn from [former Michigan head] Coach [Jim] Harbaugh and Coach Moore. Eventually, down the line, it worked out and I became a coach here. I'm super blessed and excited for the opportunity." Campbell, a wideout and safety dur- ing his playing days at Michigan (1984- 87), when he was teammates with former head coach Jim Harbaugh and athletics director Warde Manuel, spent the past six years at Bowling Green. The 59-year- old previously coached wideouts at U-M for a dozen seasons (1995-2007) under Lloyd Carr, establishing a trio of All- Americans in David Terrell, Marquise Walker and Braylon Edwards. Between his time at U-M and Bowling Green, Campbell worked at Iowa (2008-12) and with the Montreal Alouettes (2013-14) in the Canadian Football League. He rejoined Harbaugh's staff as recruiting coordinator in 2015. Ron Bellamy has coached wide receivers at his alma ma- ter since 2021, but the 2024 season was perhaps the worst for the position in modern history at U-M. Nobody in the room even managed 250 yards receiving, with Tyler Morris (now at Indiana) leading the way with 23 receptions for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns. Moore's biggest offseason addition, though, was getting Biff Poggi back as an associ- ate head coach. Poggi served as Harbaugh's consigliere of sorts in his first stint before leaving to become head coach at Char- lotte in the American Athletic Confer- ence, but now Moore has brought him back to be his right-hand man. Prior to his time at Michigan, St. Fran- ces and Charlotte, Poggi coached at The Citadel and nearly 27 years at The Gil- man School in Baltimore. Poggi was fired by Charlotte in No- vember and visited Moore and the Wol- verines, starting rumors about a poten- ❱  MICHIGAN FOOTBALL Biff Poggi Highlights Several Additions To Michigan Coaching Staff 2025 MICHIGAN SCHEDULE Date Opponent April 19 Maize vs. Blue Game Noon Aug. 30 NEW MEXICO Sept. 6 at Oklahoma Sept. 13 CENTRAL MICHIGAN Sept. 20 at Nebraska Sept. 27 Bye Oct. 4 WISCONSIN Oct. 11 at USC Oct. 18 WASHINGTON Oct. 25 at Michigan State Nov. 1 PURDUE Nov. 8 Bye Nov. 15 at Northwestern Nov. 22 at Maryland Nov. 29 OHIO STATE MICHIGAN FOOTBALL NON-ON-FIELD ASSISTANTS Biff Poggi: Associate head coach James Brown: Assistant special teams coordinator Erik Campbell: Asst. wide receivers coach Juan Castillo: Senior asst. offensive line coach Jack Clark: Assistant running backs coach Garrett Clawson: Asst. special teams coach David Denham: Assistant defensive line coach Nick Gilbert: Assistant offensive line coach Brad Hawkins: Assistant defensive backs coach (graduate assistant) Bret Ingalls: Senior offensive analyst Fred Jackson: Senior offensive analyst / running backs Grant Kurzner: Special teams analyst Pernell McPhee: Outside linebackers coach Nick Rossiello: Assistant offensive line coach (graduate assistant) Travis Russell: Quarterback assistant Josh Sinagoga: Assistant quarterback coach Lionel Stokes: Safety coach Jack Tuttle: Assistant wide receivers coach Poggi, who spent the past two seasons as head coach at Charlotte, returned to Michigan under Sherrone Moore as associate head coach, a position he held in 2021 and '22.
