4 THE WOLVERINE ❱ MAY 2025 'GOOD LUCK TO THE WOLF' On April 16, 7-footer Danny Wolf declared his intentions to leave Michigan and enter the NBA Draft. Wolf to ESPN: "This season exceeded all expec- tations. We had an awesome year from a team standpoint. I didn't know what I was getting myself into with a brand-new roster and coaching staff, but Dusty May had an out-of-the-box plan for my development with a unique style of offense that allowed me to play my game. I wouldn't be in the position I am today without them letting me showcase my skill set and developing me into the player I am today." Wolf also issued a social media post saying in part, "Forever grateful. Forever go blue." Michigan fans responded in kind on our message board, "The Fort." Classy message. Good luck to the Wolf! It was a pleasure watching you in the Maize and Blue this past year. Victor_Valiant Go do great things in the league! Thx for a great year to restore order in Ann Arbor. Fun season! Ctblue72 Thank you for helping bring back our BB pro- gram! Go get yours! WestCoastWolverine Dude was so frustrating at times but I'm gonna miss him! AlbanyWolverine Can tell the dude was a Yale guy. What a great message. So happy he played for U-M. WolverineCasual Good luck to him! I definitely see him getting taken in the 1st round. Thanks to him for helping to quickly turn around our program! Amaizingblue Bummer (I had hope). Let's hope Yaxel [Lendeborg, the UAB transfer who also has declared for the draft] sticks. Mjt2317 Thank you, Danny, and wish you nothing but the best in the League! On a positive note, it's another guy to push Yax into the 2nd round. The more the merrier! Tommy B SILVER LININGS ON ICE I'm sure the ice hockey team is disappointed with the end of their season. But they did become the second Michigan team in 2024-2025 to beat the eventual national champs in the regular season. In addition, they had an impressive 6-4 record against the Frozen Four teams, including 3-1 against the two teams that played for the title. I doubt that has hap- pened often in the past. Bob Murden Editor's note: Mr. Murden, thanks for spotlighting those high points from the ice hockey season in which Michigan finished 18-15-3 and missed out on the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018-19. Notably, all three of the Michigan wins against this year's Frozen Four finalists came on the road. The Wolverines posted a 2-1 victory over then-No. 7 Western Michigan on Nov. 30 to earn a series split. Michigan also swept a two-game road series at then- No. 5 Boston University with 5-1 and 5-4 (OT) victories against the Terriers Nov. 1-2. Western Michigan won this year's NCAA title with a 6-2 win over Boston University April 12. 'ACT APPROPRIATELY'? Dear Wolverine, All fans and alumni know that the University of Michigan is "the leaders and best." It even says so in the song "The Victors." That is why I am upset that two recent incidents have marred that image: Planting the Michigan flag in the turf at Ohio Sta- dium after the win in November. Standing on the Spartan logo at center court at Michigan State's basketball arena to make it difficult for their graduating seniors to kiss the logo after their last home game. Both childish acts! This is not the image of Michigan that we are so proud of. That is not who we are! I ask that coaches Sherrone Moore and Dusty May, respectively, have their teams act appropriately in the future. Richard H. Chamberlin BBA '61 Editor's note: Mr. Chamberlin, we appreciate your letter and longtime fan perspective, but we respect- fully disagree with your assessment. We don't believe the Michigan football and basketball programs have anything to apologize for. The football flag-planting situation was a case of U-M's joyful postgame exuberance met by violence from Buckeye players upset about their loss. And the basketball court scenario was a Sparty- induced scuffle stemming from the fact that U-M players (and first-year coaches) were unaware of an opponent's senior tradition that unnecessarily oc- curs in-game. The U-M players stood where players always stand during free throws — at center court. Truthfully, coaches Ryan Day and Tom Izzo are the ones who need to counsel their teams about how to "act appropriately" in a rivalry game. ❱ Be Heard! Send your letters to: Wolverine Letters P.O.
