Few could have expected the heights that Michigan men's basketball
could climb in Year 1 under Dusty May when he was hired last spring.
Coming off an 8-24 campaign, the worst in program history, the group's
run came to a bitter end in a 78-65 loss to Auburn in the NCAA Tourna-
ment's Sweet 16 in Atlanta on March 28.
May had to completely rebuild the program from the ground up
last offseason, from his coaching staff to the players on the floor. He
explained what it took for all of the pieces to come together during the
trip to Atlanta.
"Number one, we try to intentionally choose like-minded people,
and like-minded people typically gravitate towards those that are like
them," May said. "I've said this in recruiting, actually, in the last couple
days in Zoom [video] calls and whatever the case, that A-holes don't
like us, and we don't like them. So, we just naturally go after guys who
