obody really knew what to expect
last season when Jim Harbaugh took
the reins of the Los Angeles Chargers
and assistant coach/offensive coor-
dinator Sherrone Moore replaced him as
the Michigan head coach. Harbaugh, after
all, had proven to be one of the best coaches
at any level, having won a national cham-
pionship for his alma mater before heading
back to the NFL.
Expectations tapered considerably af-
ter a tough 4-3 start that included a home
blowout loss to Texas and a disappointing
setback at Washington. Steady improve-
ment was about the best anyone could have
hoped for after the difficult beginning, but
that's what Michigan saw under its first-
year coach. A stunning 13-10 victory at
Ohio State capped the regular season be-
