22 THE WOLVERINE ❱ AUGUST 2025 2024-25 YEAR IN REVIEW BY ANTHONY BROOME M ichigan's field hockey team gets the nod from The Wolverine this year as its Female Team of the Year, thanks to a 15-5 record and a Big Ten Tournament championship during the 2024 season. The 15-victory campaign was the most since 2021 for head coach Marcia Pankratz in her 25th and final season at the helm. The group took third place in the Big Ten regular-season standings before winning their ninth conference tourna- ment title in program history and re- turning to the NCAA Tournament after missing out the prior year, giving them their eighth appearance in nine seasons. Michigan's Big Ten Tournament title saw them avenge three regular-season losses to No. 19 Indiana (2-1 OT, Nov. 7), No. 5 Maryland (4-3 SO, Nov. 8) and No. 1 Northwestern (1-0, Nov. 10) to win their second conference crown in three seasons. That pushed the program total to nine tournament titles in program history, the most in the Big Ten. Longtime assistant Kristi Gannon Fisher (far right) will lead the program going forward.
