4 THE WOLVERINE ❱ AUGUST 2025 CREATING JUGGERNAUTS I get the feeling that U-M football and bas- ketball are creating juggernauts. Hooves Hope so. Basketball definitely looks that way. [Sherrone] Moore ended his first season as well as you can after a rough start but obvi- ously need to see more progress next season. Kelly Baraka I think basketball has created a juggernaut and football is in the process of creating one. Good both ways. Owen P. Football's got a ways to go and a lot to prove. But definitely hope so. And by that I mean we have last season to go on. We'll see what Sherrone can do with the talent he's bringing in. But also remember there's plenty of other programs that have been bringing in this level of talent for years. Anon1699065388 Absolutely! Football is flying under the radar this season. Can't wait for them to "surprise"! Ctblue72 I need to see Sherrone prove he can be a great X's and O's coach, but he's a great recruiter and the football program has everything else it needs to be an elite program year after year. For years, we watched Coach K [Krzyzew- ski] handpick his rosters from the top recruits in the country. Dusty [May] might be the next Coach K if he stays in one place and turns down the eventual NBA offers. What Dusty did with Danny Wolf has every elite big man in the country interested in him and Michigan. If Yaxel [Lendeborg] and Morez [Johnson Jr.] ball out, then Michigan could go nuclear and cement itself as Big Man U. Mark_in_MI And how many teams closed the year out by beating OSU and Alabama? Better yet, how many schools have beaten those two schools in the last 10 years combined? BUnderwood19 Basketball looks that way for sure! It's great that football is on a roll recruiting, but Moore has a ton to prove as a head coach. What are his strengths besides recruiting? Our offensive coaching was beyond awful last year and at the end of the day he's the guy with the final say on everything that was horribly mis- managed. And honestly the defensive coach- ing was not good until the last 4 games ... not sure if he is involved in that at all, but we saw with [Jim] Harbaugh and [John] Beilein what a big deal it is to have the right guy pulling the right strings on defense. I'm rooting that hard for Sherrone, but I feel like we don't know anything yet. o_GDA That is true, but the offensive side should change significantly with [Chip] Lindsey. If [Wink] Martindale can pick up where he left off at the end of the year, then you should have two very experienced coordinators who shouldn't need much from Moore from an X's and O's standpoint. The things Moore does well (recruiting, and whatever it is he did to pull off a colossal win over OSU last year, as well as a huge win in the bowl game) are obviously important, so the formula can still work. Yalevandyn JUST SAY NO TO GRAY In my opinion, there appears to be a major flaw in the agreement between University of Michigan Athletics and Nike. Specifically, Nike produces Michigan sports apparel in the color gray and M Den (the official U-M team store) continues to stock items of that ilk. My problem is that, as we all know, scarlet and gray are the primary colors of our archrival and, as such, have no place among the Wolver- ine faithful. I assume that Michigan Athletics has some say in the Nike offerings representing the university and should insist on discontinu- ing creation of items in that unwelcome color. Gray and white are considered neutral, but I feel that using one of the main colors of a despised opponent is not a wise choice and must be stopped. Granted, even a gray-colored shirt looks much better when exhibiting a maize or blue block M, but the school's primary col- ors should be the main focus. Anything less mars the brand. We are proud of our team, but I think wear- ing even a smattering of Ohio State-themed Michigan apparel is supporting the abhorred enemy. It just makes no sense. I encourage Wolverine Nation to boycott gray. There is certainly enough maize and blue to suffice. Smashing the Buckeyes five times in a row is better than four in a row.
