6 PRESEASON 2025 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED BLAST FROM THE PAST The 35th anniversary is upon us this season. For the 1990 football season, I conspired with former editor, Tim Prister, to have the weekly cartoon, N.D. O'Hara, published in Blue and Gold Illustrated. Tim and I would collaborate over the phone on the direction of what we wanted portrayed. I would then draw it up and overnight it to him. Unfortu- nately, for me, my cartoon was voted out for 1991. A few highlights for me: Not long after the book "Under the Tarnished Dome" was published, and during Desert Storm, my cartoon was of a sports- caster talking about rising tensions in Iraq. That Coach Lou Holtz had been accused of saying Iraqi troops were injury prone. When reached for com- ment, Lou had his arms raised, as in "what else?" and stated no comment. Holtz told Prister, that was the first time he ever laughed at a BGI issue. I've been a lifelong Subway alumni and sub- scriber since 1988. Your coverage gets better every year! This is our year, GO IRISH! Tim Hughey Tim, Happy Anniversary! To celebrate, we've de- cided to re-run the cartoon you noted in this edition of Fan Forum. Thank you for your contribution and your continued support. It is very much appreciated. BGI AMBASSADOR Already have my copy [of the BGI 2025 Football Preview] and loving every bit of it. It's a fantastic issue!!! Definitely prepares me like no other for the football season! Really thank everyone at BGI for me for being the best media group in the country covering college football! Class act 1000%! I'm thrilled that you also have Eric Hansen and Tyler James on board now as well!!! A legendary organization just became more legendary! Your efforts are truly appreciated and I will continue to promote the work of Blue & Gold wherever I go and to every Irish fan I meet! Another great Notre Dame season lies ahead … God Bless! Go Irish!!!! Eric Swope Thanks, Eric! We really appreciate your kind words and your support. We're very proud of our football preview magazine and are glad you're enjoying it! We're also very excited to have Eric Hansen and Tyler James on board. The addition of those two will help us take our coverage to a whole new level. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER In anticipation of the summer publication of the 2025 ND Football Preview, I would like to respect- fully request that the Preview include a guide to the pronunciation of the names of players and coaches (especially those new to the team) whose names might not have obvious pronunciations. Such a guide would facilitate preseason conversations among the Irish faithful. It might be included as either a small sidebar or within the individuals' profiles. Thanks for your consideration. Steve Lerch Steve, we did not have room in our 2025 football preview to include Notre Dame's official pronuncia- tion guide so — better late than never — here it is: No. Name Pronunciation 84 Kevin Bauman B-ow-man 31 Taebron Bennie-Powell Tay-bron 12 Jordan Botelho Bo-TELL-ho 34 Drayk Bowen Drake BOE-enn 10 Tyler Buchner Buck-ner 25 Dylan Devezin DEV-eh-zen 48 Marcello Diomede Mar-chell-oh Dee-oh-med-ee 6 Jordan Faison Fay-zonn 0 Malachi Fields MAL-uh-kye 42 Henry Garrity Gare (like stare)-itty 41 Donovan Hinish HIGH-nish 52 Devan Houstan Dev-in Houston (like the city) 56 Charles Jagusah Jog-you-saw 9 Tae Johnson Tay 36 Bodie Kahoun Bow-dee Ka-hoon 43 Kahanu Kia Ka-ha-new Kee-uh 54 Anthonie Knapp Nap 49 Andrew Kros Cross 76 Guerby Lambert Gur-bee 8 Kenny Minchey Minn-shee 13 Ben Minich Minn-ick 88 Armel Mukam Moo-kum 47 Jason Onye Own-yay 64 Joe Otting Ott (like otter)-ing 3 Gi'Bran Payne Gih-bron (like LeBron) 38 Tommy Powlus Paul-us 24 Jadarian Price Jah-DAR (like dart)-ee-an 9 Eli Raridon RARE-i-dun 16 James Rendell Ren-DELL 16 Anthony Rezac Ree-zak 35 Teddy Rezac Ree-zak 46 Jerry Rullo Rule-oh 19 Logan Saldate Sal-dah-tay 82 Leo Scheidler SHIDE-ler 74 Billy Schrauth sh-ROUTH (like ow) 59 Sean Sevillano Jr. Sev-ill-on-oh 8 Adon Shuler Uh-donn 31 Xavier Southall Ex-avier 28 Luke Talich Taal (like tally)-ich 55 Chris Terek Terr-ick 5 Boubacar Traore Boob-ah-car Tray-or-ree 44 Junior Tuihalamaka Tooey-ah-la-maka 96 Joseph Vinci Vin-see 59 Aamil Wagner Ah-meal 22 Aneyas Williams Uh-nee-us 61 Robbie Wollan Wool-an 21 Kedren Young Key-dren FAN FORUM BE HEARD! Send your letters to: sdowney@comanpub.com or mail to: Blue & Gold Illustrated, P. O. Box 2331, Durham, NC 27702 With fall camp fast approaching, Irish fans were sharing their excitement for the upcoming season on our message board at BlueandGold.com. Here is a snippet from one of those conversations. Irish Hound dog: I know we've had similar topics from the mods, but curious to see who we all feel will be the best at their position this season. Let's hear what y'all think: QB — Carr (hoping the lights aren't too bright for him). RB — Love (obvious choice, but I'm also not sleeping on Price). WR — FIELDS!!! (this guy is going to be THE breakout player ND needs this season). TE — Rairdon (unfortunately, I think there's a pretty big drop off after ER). OL — Schrauth (pure mauler; anxious for CJ to return and as my kids say, "assert dominance). DT — Jared (Louisville transfer; just a gut feeling on my part). DE — Traore (will wreak havoc in the backfield while JB is out; junior is my sleeper). LB — Bowen (my favorite player; pure Thumper!). DB/S — Moore (obvious pick, but Shuler will be an absolute menace as well!). Extra Credit: Biggest hit/thump of Game 1: Bowen or Shuler. akshatshekhar: Replace Bowen with KVA and this list is perfect. IrishFireCapt: I think people are underestimating Bowen, much like we did Kiser. TeeMill3: I'll believe it when I see it when it comes to a transfer WR … give me Greathouse at WR. Honorable mention for Micah Gilbert. DE: Bryce Young DB: Shuler CB: Moore LB: KVA DL: Dawson OL: Billy TE: Eli RB and QB are obvious. Even though I want Minchey to be QB1. FROM THE WEB .com .com
