C O M A nyone who's driven past Beaver Stadium in recent weeks knows that construction crews have been hard at work installing the tempo- rary bleachers on the facility's west side that will be in place for the 2025 football season. Given the massive scope of the proj- ect, some may have wondered whether the new seats would be ready in time for Penn State's matchup with Nevada. An Aug. 8 update from the athletics de- partment put those concerns to rest. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PSU announced that the new seating would indeed be finished prior to the Nittany Lions' season opener against the Wolf Pack on Aug. 30. "Temporary seats are nearing com- pletion and will be ready to go in time for kickoff," Penn State Athletics wrote. "Shout out to InProduction for the temporary seating at Beaver Stadium! The nation's leader in temp seating will complete the install next week & will execute a rigorous inspection & certi- fication program to ensure the seating is safe, secure & spectacular for the Ne- vada game." InProduction has built temporary seating for numerous major sport- ing events, including the U.S. Open golf tournament at the Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club, the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City, the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Ore., and the Kentucky Derby. The company also recently built a 12,000-seat temporary stadium for Northwestern. The Wildcats tore down Ryan Field last year to make way for a new permanent facility that is sched- uled to open in 2026. In its tweet, Penn State included a short video showing the temporary seating along with the lighting that has been put in place for the 2025 season. The Nittany Lions already have one night game scheduled, with their Big Ten opener against Oregon set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 27. The west-side grandstand is one of three temporary structures that will be in place at Penn State this fall as work on the $700 million renovation project continues. The other two structures will be in the northeast and southeast decks. The latter additions have caught head coach James Franklin's attention head- ing into his 12th season on the Nittany Lions' sideline. Even after all the ex- pansion projects that have been under- taken since the stadium first opened in 1960, there have been gaps between the expansive grandstands and the upper TEMPORARY SEATING WILL BE READY BY OPENING DAY G R E G P I C K E L | G R E G .
