BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM SEPT. 27, 2025 43 OPPONENT ON DECK: BOISE STATE Date: Oct. 4, 2025 Site (Capacity): Notre Dame Stadium (77,622) Kickoff (TV): 3:30 p.m. (NBC) All-time series: First meeting 2025 Record To Date: 2-1 (1-0 Mountain West) Boise State head coach: Spencer Danielson (17-4, 3rd season) Season summary: The post-Ashton Jeanty era slapped the Broncos right in the face out of the gate. Boise State lost at South Florida, 34-7. The Broncos lost twice in all of the 2024 season, 37-34 to Oregon in Week 2 and 31-14 versus Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl in the College Football Playoff. The Broncos turned the ball over three times against the Bulls. The former actually outgained the latter 378 to 372 in total yards, but USF didn't have any turnovers. The Bulls also stopped the Broncos three times on fourth down. Boise State had a get-right game against East- ern Washington in Week 2. They pummeled the Eagles, 51-14, piling up 637 total yards in the pro- cess. Most importantly, the Broncos played a clean game. They didn't turn the ball over one time. Redshirt junior quarterback Maddux Madsen had an accuracy issue in the first two games of the season, completing just 56.9 percent of his passes. That was down from the 62.4 percent clip he fin- ished with on 396 pass attempts in the 2024 sea- son. He threw for 3,018 yards with 23 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions last year, so once he gets rolling he can get in quite a groove. The question is, though, how much can this of- fense really roll against tough competition without a tailback like Jeanty to lean on? It didn't work out against South Florida. We'll see how much it works out against Notre Dame in South Bend. Spencer Danielson guided the Broncos to the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff in his second season and has a .810 winning percentage in his young career as a head coach.
