12 THE WOLVERINE ❱ OCTOBER 2025 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS LEGENDARY TENNIS COACH BRIAN EISNER PASSES AWAY Michigan announced the passing of former men's tennis coach Brian Eis- ner on Sept. 15 at 83 years old. Eisner served as the Wolverines' head coach from 1969-99, leading the program to 18 Big Ten championships and 18 NCAA Tournament appear- ances. Under his guidance, Michigan won 16 consecutive conference titles from 1970-85 and posted six top-10 finishes. "We are saddened by the passing of former Michigan men's tennis coach Brian Eisner," athletics director Warde Manuel said in a statement. "Over the course of his distinguished career in Ann Arbor, Coach Eisner guided the Wolverines to 18 Big Ten champion- ships and established Michigan as one of the premier programs in collegiate tennis. We extend our deepest con- dolences to his family, friends, former players, and the entire Michigan tennis community." U-M racked up 449 dual match wins in Eisner's tenure along with 16 All- Americans, six Big Ten Athletes of the Year and 69 All-Big Ten selections. Mike Leach won an NCAA singles title in 1982, and Dan Goldberg was a na- tional runner-up in 1987. The U-M release called Eisner a key figure in the development of the Var- sity Tennis Center. He was also an in- ductee of the ITA Collegiate Hall of Fame and the Michigan Athletics Hall of Honor. U-M SOFTBALL ADDS FORMER ALL-AMERICAN TO STAFF Carmyn Greenwood has joined the softball coaching staff, U-M an- nounced on Sept. 2. An NFCA All-American at Louis- ville (2020-22), Greenwood spent the last two years as an assistant coach at Western Kentucky. "We are thrilled to welcome Carmyn to Michigan. She's a coach whose en- ergy is contagious and whose experience brings invaluable insight to our team," U-M head coach Bonnie Tholl said. "Her passion for the game and commitment to player development will make a pow- erful impact both on and off the field. Carmyn is ready and excited to help el- evate Michigan softball." During Greenwood's time at WKU, the Hilltoppers led Conference USA in hitting in 2024 and had seven all- conference performers with four all- region honorees. She also led softball camps at Louisville and Auburn and coached travel softball in the 14U and 18U levels. "I'm very excited to be a part of this Michigan program — one with so much great tradition and history — and the culture we have here," Greenwood said. "I'm also excited to work with this coaching staff and want to thank Bon- nie for the opportunity. Everyone has been welcoming, the girls are great, and I'm looking forward to continue building on the success from the last couple of seasons." Greenwood spent the first three seasons of her playing career at Au- burn (2017-19). She earned NFCA All- America third-team honors in her final collegiate season at Louisville. TWO-TIME NATIONAL CHAMPION JOINS MEN'S LACROSSE Head coach Kevin Conry announced Aug. 27 that Liam Entenmann, a two- time national champion at Notre Dame, is joining the U-M men's la- crosse staff as an assistant coach. Entenmann was the starting goalie for the New York Atlas of the Profes- sional Lacrosse League last year. He posted 232 saves (57 percent save per- centage) with 45 ground balls and an assist in 17 career games. "We are very excited to add Liam to our coaching staff this season," Conry said. "He is one of the most accom- plished goalies in collegiate lacrosse and has proven to still be one of the best at the professional level. Our student-athletes will benefit tremen- dously from Liam's mentorship. He has competed and succeeded at all levels of the game." Entenmann earned All-America honors in each of his four seasons with the Irish. He was a two-time first- team honoree and named national goaltender of the year as a junior and senior while leading Notre Dame to back-to-back NCAA championships in 2023 and '24. — Anthony Broome MAIZE AND BLUE NOTEBOOK Eisner led the U-M men's tennis program to 18 Big Ten championships and 18 NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure at the school from 1969-99.
