54 THE WOLVERINE ❱ OCTOBER 2025 BY CHRIS BALAS M ichigan basketball coach Dusty May and his staff picked up an- other huge recruiting win in landing Bos- ton The Newman School power forward Quinn Costello (6-foot-10, 195, Rivals' No. 44 player in the combined industry rankings) to go with three-star big man Marcus Moller of Denmark (7-foot-2), but the work is far from over. With at least four players from the current team slated to move on after the 2025-26 sea- son — wing Nimari Burnett, guard Roddy Gayle Jr., and graduate power forwards Yaxel Lendeborg and Will Tschetter — and the possibility of transfers out, the Wolverines will likely add two more players, maybe up to four by next spring. May told the media this summer he was looking for the right blend between the transfer portal and the prep ranks, and he's proved it by casting a wide net in both. Right now, of course, he's fo- cusing on the high schoolers, and while some visitors and offerees have pledged elsewhere, there are still a few visitors scheduled, and others he and his staff are trying to land from the 2026 class. Here's where things stand. THE LATEST ON VISITORS AND OFFEREES LUCA FOSTER AND ANTHONY THOMPSON Luca Foster, a 6-5, 185 small forward out of Branson (Mo.) Link Academy, enjoyed a really good visit to Michi- gan, sources told us days following his Sept. 13 weekend trip, but the fast-ris- ing wing still has more schools to visit. Others told us competing schools are offering more NIL incentives that will make it tough for the Wolverines to compete after landing Costello. Foster was slated to visit Georgetown Sept. 20, Ohio State Sept. 27, Virginia Oct. 4 and Gonzaga Oct. 11. "I'd like to call myself a wing who can handle the ball," Foster told Rivals. "I can knock down shots, play above the rim, create for my teammates, and play defense. I feel like I can do a little bit of everything on the floor." Foster, the No. 16 small forward and No. 37 overall prospect nationally per the Rivals Industry Ranking, was one of the top performers at the July 13 Nike EYBL event in North Augusta, S.C. Ri- vals' Joe Tipton called him the No. 2 player he saw on Saturday that week- end. "In the 6-foot-5, 6-foot-6 range, Foster has plus length and some ex- plosive pop," he wrote. "He is good in straight lines, getting out in transition with a purpose. He needs to continue developing off the bounce and being able to self-create separation. Where his game has developed over the past eight or so months is as a shooter." He does like U-M, but enough to po- tentially take less NIL incentives to join the program? That's what it might come down to. As for Anthony Thompson, he en- joyed Ann Arbor the Sept. 5 weekend, and at one point Michigan and Indiana were considered the two to beat. Indi- ana reportedly came on strong hosting him Sept. 12, while Texas and Kentucky immediately afterward were also on the agenda. "Michigan did what it needed to do with him on campus," Rivals' Jamie Shaw reported, "but Thompson's visit to Indiana could significantly steer the course of his recruitment." The new Indiana basketball staff pri- oritized Thompson immediately after they took over. He was the first prospect that the current staff visited shortly af- ter their hire. "The staff watched Thompson nu- merous times throughout the spring and summer on the AAU circuit and visited him twice in the last week when the cur- rent live recruiting period opened up," Shaw noted. Thompson was a standout performer this summer on the Adidas 3SSB Cir- cuit. Playing for Indiana Elite he aver- aged 22.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 as- sists, 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. He shot 58.8 percent from the floor and ❱ BASKETBALL RECRUITING Dusty May And His Staff Have Two 2026 Pledges On Board And Will Pursue More MICHIGAN'S 2026 COMMITMENTS Name Rating Pos. Ht. Wt.
