BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM OCT. 18, 2025 41 OPPONENT ON DECK: BOSTON COLLEGE EAGLES Date: Nov. 1, 2025 Site (Capacity): Alumni Stadium (44,500) Kickoff: TBA All-time series: Notre Dame leads 18-9 Last meeting: Notre Dame 44, Boston College 0 (Nov. 19, 2022, at South Bend) 2025 Record To Date: 1-5 (0-4 ACC) Boston College head coach: Bill O'Brien (8-11, 2nd season) Season summary: Boston College and Michigan State played a thrilling, double-overtime game in Week 2 that ended in favor of the Spartans. Even in a losing 42-40 effort, the Eagles looked to be an intriguing team. But recent results suggest that exciting game may have just been a close matchup between two of the worst teams in their respective conferences. If a 10-point loss at Stanford wasn't embarrass- ing enough for BC one week later, a 41-point loss at Pittsburgh Oct. 4 illustrated just how far the Eagles are from being competitive in the ACC. Boston College relies way too much on redshirt sophomore quarterback Dylan Lonergan, an Ala- bama transfer, to carry an offense that has one of the worst rushing attacks in the country. Lonergan is capable of leading a good passing attack, but not for such a one-dimensional offense. BC 's pass-heavy offensive attack hasn't im- proved its pass defense on the practice field. The Eagles allowed true freshman quarterback Mason Heintschel to complete 73.2 percent of his passes for 323 yards with 4 touchdowns in his starting debut for Pitt. After winning seven games last season in his return to college football at Boston College, head coach Bill O'Brien will be lucky to match that total this year. O'Brien used his first stint as a college head coach at Penn State (2012-13) as a spring- board to an NFL head coaching job after two sea- sons. He will almost certainly be stuck trying to dig Boston College out a hole after two seasons with the Eagles. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Dylan Lonergan, an Alabama transfer, completed 67.4 percent of his passes for 1,277 yards with 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions during Boston College's 1-4 start.
