BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM NOV. 15, 2025 41 OPPONENT ON DECK: SYRACUSE Date: Nov. 22, 2025 Site (Capacity): Notre Dame Stadium (77,622) Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. All-time series: Notre Dame leads 8-3 Last meeting: Notre Dame 41, Syracuse 24 (Oct. 29, 2022, at Syracuse, N.Y.) 2025 Record To Date: 3-7 (1-6 ACC) Syracuse head coach: Fran Brown (13-10, 2nd year) Season summary: With former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli at the helm, Syracuse pulled off arguably the upset of the season at the time. Facing a desperate Clemson team, the Orange went into Death Valley and smacked the Tigers in every phase of the game. Syracuse was winning 27-14 late in the third quarter when Angeli scrambled to his right, and … he collapsed with a non-contact injury. Tests confirmed the Orange's fears the next day: Angeli had torn his Achilles tendon. While Angeli's injury is brutal for the former Irish signal-caller, who was leading the nation in passing yards at the time, the good news is it happened in Game 4, not Game 5. That means he can medically redshirt, and he still has two years of eligibility remaining. Syracuse head coach Fran Brown con- firmed Nov. 3 that Angeli will return in 2026, and that he will be the starting quarterback as long as he's healthy. The bad news is that Angeli's injury completely derailed the Orange's season. Since Angeli got hurt, Syracuse has not won a single game, and its closest margin of defeat is 13 points. Even Bill Belichick's North Carolina Tar Heels walloped the Orange 27-10 for their first Power Four win. Brown benched Angeli's replace- ment, Rickie Collins, for a quarterback whose pri- mary sport is lacrosse in true freshman Joseph Filardi, with predictable results (4-of-18 passing for 39 yards against UNC). The Fighting Irish typically do not lose on Se- nior Day. This year versus Syracuse should be no exception. On Deck Head coach Fran Brown started his tenure at Syracuse with 13 wins in 17 games but the Orange has lost its last six games after losing its starting quarterback, former Irish signal-caller Steve Angeli.
