DECEMBER 2025 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 31 ❱ MICHIGAN FOOTBALL JUSTICE HAYNES TO HAVE FOOT SURGERY, REMAINDER OF SEASON IN DOUBT Michigan junior running back Jus- tice Haynes put up big numbers in a 31- 20 win at Michigan State Oct. 25, but it came at a price. Haynes ran for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns on 26 carries but suffered a foot injury in the process, one that would require surgery. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Haynes was seen on the sidelines on a scooter and with a boot on his right leg the fol- lowing week in a 21-16 home win over Purdue. There have been reports that the Wolverines hope to get him back yet this year — sources tell The Wolverine it would probably be the Nov. 29 Ohio State game at the earliest — but head coach Sherrone Moore played it close to the vest after the victory over the Boil- ermakers. "We'll see. We'll see exactly how long that'll be," Moore said of a timeline for his return. Haynes led all Power Four conference running backs with an average of 122 yards per game when he got hurt, rush- ing 121 times for 857 yards and averaging 7.1 yards per carry and adding 10 rush- ing touchdowns. He'd also hauled in 13 receptions for 50 yards. Haynes' injury was his second this season. He missed the second half of a 31-13 loss at USC Oct. 11 after running for 51 yards on 10 carries, leaving with an upper-body injury, and sat out the Washington game — a 24-7 home vic- tory — a week later. Before that, he became the first back in Michigan history to run for 100- plus yards in his first five games in the winged hel- met. His career best came in the opener, a win over New Mexico in which he ran for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns on only 16 carries. "I was very eager to get out there," Haynes said of returning for the MSU game. "It always sucks being hurt, but I can only control the controllables. It was unfortunate it hap- pened, but I could control what I could control." He started the second half with runs of 20 and 26 yards on the first drive, capping it with a touch- OFFENSE Pos.
