4 THE WOLVERINE ❱ APRIL 2026 U-M'S SPARTY SWEEP TRIGGERS TOM IZZO The Michigan men's basketball team com- pleted its 29-2 regular-season March 8 with its second double-digit win over rival Michigan State, this time 90-80 at Crisler Center. Emotions ran high, and Spartans guard Jeremy Fears Jr. — previously called out by Dusty May for "dangerous plays" in the first meeting — once again was charged with a technical foul against the Wolverines. This time, Fears was caught kicking his leg up and hitting U-M guard Elliott Cadeau in the groin after Cadeau had fouled him early in the game. Fears was caught in a nearly identical incident against Minnesota earlier this season. Meanwhile, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo complained and of- fered weak excuses in a sideline interview during the broadcast as well as in the post- game interview room. The majority of [Izzo's] postgame com- ments were totally unhinged and downright crazy. He's clearly in love with himself. The Brown Jug [From the Wolverine.com:] "I'm not talking about that," Izzo said before talking about it in detail. "I don't think he did anything on pur- pose. I thought it was a reaction. I don't know the whole deal about it. It was a critical play, as they all are. … I watched it on tape, their guy's pushing him in the back, and sometimes that stuff happens, you know?" Just an astounding talent for incoherence, prevarication, and endless contradiction. I'm not talking about it — but I am (a lot). I don't know what happened — but I watched it on tape. I don't think he did it on purpose — but he'll "get his lunch from me" (whatever in the &%$ that means). BlueMeridian Just like [former MSU football coach Mark] Dantonio. Michigan flipped the script in the rivalry, and he's going to slowly burn out. Be- tween the new NIL world and emergence of Dusty May's Michigan, Mr. "One of the all-time greats based upon one title 26 years ago" will be pushed into the old folks home. GoBlue129 I wonder what Izzo's perspective is when they have chanted "Little Sister" or "**** you, Dusty" at Breslin … He's a big baby and a sore loser, and it was evident again today. mjt2317 He continues to play both sides of the fence. He keeps having these "come to Jesus" talks with Fears (even though he continues to play him all game) yet in front of the media says it's all unintentional. If it's unintentional (come on, Tom) why do you need to freak out on him and scream in his face? Like I said, even my homer MSU friends are starting to feel a little sheepish about Izzo's behavior this year. BlueTK Dusty officially is living RENT FREE in Izzo's head. The rants show that he's worried about so much more than X's and O's. SiennaRobert The thing with Izzo is that he is one of those guys who is wired to think that giving credit to your rival in any way is a sign of weakness or helps your rival somehow. Even his compli- ments are given begrudgingly. Contrast that with Dusty who called Fears an "elite player and thinker" tonight after the game. That's how people who aren't threat- ened talk. Izzo has always felt threatened by Michigan. Even though he's had an amazing 30-year run. Some people just need to be the victim to find their competitive juice I guess. andrewhfine The ACC issued a formal reprimand to [Duke's] Grayson Allen [in 2016-17] after his second tripping incident. (Not that it worked, as he kept going and Coach K [Krzyzewski] even- tually suspended him.) Other than Tiny Tony being an inept figurehead, how has Fears not received one after his litany of dirty plays? SFWolverine91 Dusty has finished what [John] Beilein started. Izzo is broken and I do think he's going to have a breakdown. On the court, possibly. The fact that he's excusing what Fears does and then tries to twist it and blame it on Michi- gan and May shows he's developed some seri- ous mental issues. Hope we meet them in the BTT, heck, then the NCAA tournament and beat him 4 times in a season! Amaizingblue ❱ Be Heard! Send your letters to: Wolverine Letters P.O.
