S.G. • By landing four commitments from recruits located in Florida between April 22 and May 1, the Irish are approaching a notable milestone. Notre Dame has already matched last year's total of com- mits from Florida with quarterback Champ Monds (Vero Beach), linebacker Amarri Irvin (Bradenton IMG Academy), and safeties Zayden Gamble (Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) and John Gay III (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna Prep). According to Rivals, Monds (No. 19), Gamble (No. 24), Irvin (No. 61) and Gay (No. 73) are among the top 75 recruits in talent-rich Florida for the 2027 class. With four pledges from Florida already in the fold, the Irish could match the seven they signed in 2016 — the most in the Rivals era. Entering the late spring official visit season, Notre Dame is also a top school for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Julius Jones Jr. (No. 7), Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit linebacker Kaden Hen- derson (No. 2), Lakeland (Fla.) High edge Santana Harvey (No. 34) and Wellington (Fla.) Palm Beach Central defensive lineman Tyler Alexander (No. 41) are among the top prospects in the state. All but Har- vey, who is scheduled to officially visit Notre Dame in June, made it to campus this spring. Jones and Henderson will also make it back for official visits. Monds, Irvin, Gamble, Henderson and Jones are all four-star prospects. Harvey and Gay are rated as three-stars. • Notre Dame football's recruiting success in Florida can be attributed, in part, to the coaching staff's ties there. Five of the program's 11 primary assistants are from the Sunshine State: lineback- ers coach Brian Jean-Mary (Apopka), defensive backs coach Aaron Henry (Immokalee), defensive line coach Charlie Partridge (Plantation), running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider (Belle Glade) and safe- ties coach Jevaughn Codlin (Delray Beach). Codlin, specifically, has a unique connection. He attended Delray Beach Village Academy, which is 28 miles north of St. Thomas Aquinas and 36 miles north of Chaminade-Madonna Prep. Nicknamed "JCod," he has been credited with helping the Irish assemble their star-studded 2026 defensive back class and the group they have so far in 2027. Notre Dame has even more ties to Florida. Wide receivers coach Mike Brown spent three years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and his as- sistant, Shaun Shivers, attended Chaminade-Ma- donna Prep. Shivers played a key role in helping the Irish land Gay because he was on the Chami- nade-Madonna coaching staff during Gay's fresh- man and sophomore seasons in 2023 and 2024. Defensive analyst Tre Reader attended Tampa Berkeley Prep and is one of the key reasons the Irish are among the favorites for Henderson, Rivals' top 2027 linebacker and No. 21 overall player nationally. • Another bonus of Notre Dame's commit- ments in the Sunshine State is the schools they've secured them from. With Irvin in the class, Notre Dame is well-positioned to sign an IMG Academy recruit for the first time since 2018. Four-star safety Houston Griffith was the last IMG prospect to sign with the Irish. Notre Dame is also tracking to sign a St. Thomas Aquinas recruit for the first time since 2017. That year, the Irish added three-star St. Thomas Aquinas linebacker Drew White, who became an Irish captain. Like IMG Academy, St. Thomas Aquinas is one of the top high school programs nationally every year — and one the Irish would like to continue to capitalize on in the 2027 cycle. Jones, Rivals' No. 16 wide receiver and No. 84 overall player in the class, attends St. Thomas Aquinas. As the son of former Irish running back Julius Jones — who played for Notre Dame from 1999-2001and 2003 — the younger Jones is a prized target in the 2027 class. Adding Jones could give the Fighting Irish a puncher's chance of reaching that 2016 mark of signing at least seven recruits from Florida. — Kyle Kelly 2027 Master List Changes Prospects Committed: QB Champ Monds of Vero Beach, Fla.; DE Aidan O'Neil of Ramsey, N.J.; S Zayden Gamble of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and S John Gay III of Hollywood, Fla.
