MAY/JUNE 2026 ■ 15 TRACKING THE PACK PACK PERFORMERS Rett Johnson, Baseball Johnson extended his hitting streak to a team-best 21 games with a 2-for-5 perfor- mance at the plate against visiting Miami on May 2. NC State's 12-7 victory came on the heels of a doubleheader split the previous day, giving the Pack its first series win over the Hurricanes since 2019. Johnson has been a big part of the team's recent success. Through 47 games, 44 of which he started, the freshman outfielder from Youngsville, N.C., was second in the ACC with a .420 batting average and third with a .528 on-base percentage. In 157 at-bats, Johnson had 10 doubles, 28 RBI and just 12 strikeouts. Marie Eline Madsen, Women's Golf A sophomore from Viborg, Denmark, Madsen was one of 15 players named by the Haskins Foundation in late April to the post- season watch list for the ANNIKA Award, which goes to the top women's golfer in Di- vision I. Heading into the NCAA Regionals May 11-13 at Chapel Hill, Madsen was leading the Wolfpack with a 70.93 scoring average. She had posted seven top-10 finishes in 10 tournament appearances, including wins at the Cougar Classic, Daniel Island Invitational and City of Oaks Collegiate. In addition, she tied for sixth at the ACC Champion- ships April 16-18 in Wilmington, N.C., shooting a 6-under 210. Angelina Napoleon, Women's Track and Field At the Penn Relays April 23 in Philadel- phia, Napoleon made her season debut in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. It was an im- pressive showing. The junior from Allegany, N.Y., led by almost 100 meters by the end of Lap 5 and went on to win by nearly 19 sec- onds, posting a time of 9:37.72. In doing so, she broke the meet record by nearly 14 seconds. And in addition to competing in her signature event at the Penn Relays, she was part of an NC State team that won the 4x1500-meter relay with a time of 16:59.86, second best in program history. Quintin McCarty, Men's Swimming and Diving McCarty capped his redshirt junior season by shining for the Wolfpack at the NCAA Champion- ships March 25-28 in Atlanta. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, setting a program record by finishing in 18.47 seconds. In addition, he was sixth in the 100 free (40.90) and ninth in the 100 backstroke (44.49). McCarty was also part of relay teams that set ACC records in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle events. The Pack finished the former in 1:13.73 to place third overall and the latter in 2:43.31 to place second.
