2025-26 YEAR IN REVIEW Michigan's Olivia Olson led all scorers with 27 points, all coming in the second half, in a 92-63 blowout win over No. 7-seeded NC State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. PHOTO COURTESY MICHIGAN PHOTOGRAPHY BIGGEST UPSETS OF THE YEAR MALE SPORT UPSET OF THE YEAR LACROSSE VS. PENN STATE Michigan played nine games against ranked opponents, winning three of them. The 9-8 win over No. 8 Penn State in State College on April 11 was the highlight, with freshman attacker Luke Shannehan scoring the game-winner with 12 seconds remaining. The Wolverines weren't supposed to steal that one, especially not on the road. At the time, they were unranked and improved only to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in Big Ten play. Penn State went on to win the Big Ten Tournament with a 16-8 victory over Johns Hopkins in the final and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, where it lost 14-10 to Princeton, the eventual national champion. BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES OF THE YEAR MALE SPORT BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR ELLIOT CADEAU VS. UCONN, BASKETBALL The 6-foot-1, 180-pound West Orange, N.J., native showed the na- tion the improvement he had made since his time at North Carolina, leading Michigan to a 69-63 win over the Huskies in the national championship game. Cadeau finished with 19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Cadeau hit 1 of Michigan's 2 made three- pointers in a game that didn't feature much offense. There have been games where Wolverine players have scored more, and he's certainly dished out more assists than that, but this was a low-scoring, grind-it-out slugfest where every play was magnified. For his performance and his 13 points, 10 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals in the semifinal win over Arizona, Cadeau was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Final Four. MARYLAND The Wolverines took down No. 3 Maryland for the first time— 15-4 in Ann Arbor, April 16, to mark one of eight ranked victories on the season. Michigan improved to 1-13 against the powerhouse program with that triumph, after coming within three goals in the previous three meetings. It was pure domination, especially defensively. The Terrapins were held to only four goals, their lowest output on the season, including none in the fourth quarter. The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team used a late goal from Luke Shannehan to secure a 9-8 win over No. 8 Penn State on April 11 at Panzer Stadium. NC STATE, BASKETBALL The New Hope, Minn., native was magnificent while putting up a game-high 27 points — all of them com- ing in the second half — in a 92-63 blowout win over No. 7-seeded NC State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines took control of the game with a 15-3 run in the third quarter, which featured three buckets from Olson. She then scored 15 of Michigan's 32 points in the fourth quarter, forcing the Wolfpack to go out with a whimper. Olson added 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists while shooting 9-of-19 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point distance. AUGUST 2026 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 39
