SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 ■ 15 TRACKING THE PACK PACK PERFORMERS Popo Aguirre, Football On an otherwise difficult afternoon, Agu- irre made a big impression during his NC State debut. The transfer linebacker from Miami was credited with 18 total tackles — 4 solo, 14 assisted — in the Wolfpack's 34-8 season-opening loss to Virginia on Aug. 29 in Charlottesville, Va. Aguirre, a senior from Fayetteville, Ga., compiled the most tackles by an NC State de- fender in a single game since linebacker Payton Wilson totaled 19 stops against Duke in 2020. In his three seasons with the Hurricanes, during which he played in 39 games, Aguirre never had more than 6 stops in any single contest. Jade Bordeleau, Women's Soccer A senior forward from Terrebonne, Quebec, Bordeleau has helped the NC State women's soccer team get off to its best start in nearly two decades. She scored 8 goals in the Wolf- pack's first six games, all victories. That total included a hat trick in a 6-1 romp over David- son Aug. 30 at Dail Soccer Field. Heading into a Sept. 3 visit to Western Carolina, Bordeleau was only 2 goals shy of her scoring total from the entire 2025 campaign, in which she saw action in 18 games. She was tied for the ACC lead in both goals and points (17), having notched an assist on the Pack's opening goal against Davidson. Quintin McCarty, Men's Swimming McCarty shined at the Pan Pacific Cham- pionships Aug. 12-15 in Irvine, Calif. The fifth-year senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., earned the gold medal in the 50-me- ter backstroke competition, setting a Pan Pacific Championships record with his time of 24.51 seconds. In addition to his first- place performance in the backstroke, McCarty placed fourth in the 50-meter freestyle event with a time of 21.71 seconds. McCarty is a 17-time All-American and nine-time ACC cham- pion in collegiate competition, and he's been part of 200- and 400-yard medley relay teams that have set American records. Britni Silver, Volleyball Silver kicked off her collegiate career in rousing fashion at the Black & Gold Classic in Orlando, Fla. One of three freshmen in the Wolfpack's starting lineup on opening day, the outside hitter from Greenville, N.C., posted a match-high 15 kills in a sweep of Stony Brook on Aug. 28. In a sweep of Robert Morris the next day, Silver posted her first career double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.
