18 SEPT. 12, 2026 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED IT'S IN THE DETAILS Jack and Kathy Shields Family Hall officially opened its doors on July 31. Notre Dame's state-of-the-art 162,032-square-foot football support facility dou- bled the size of the program's previous football foot- print. It is designed to work in tandem with the exist- ing Guglielmino Athletics Complex to optimize player rest, nutrition, workouts and overall development. Every detail inside the Shields Family Hall explic- itly honors the history and tradition of Notre Dame football. The facility seamlessly blends modern, high-tech athletic tools with several distinct histori- cal and campus elements: Campus Architecture: Signature design elements from the South Bend campus and Notre Dame Stadium are woven throughout the entire facility. Iconic Stadium Brick: The historic brick enclosing Notre Dame Stadium is featured heavily through- out the interior walls of the building. The Founder's Lines: The 18 total stripes cut at a precise 42-degree angle — the exact pattern used in the stadium end zones — are woven into the locker room design and custom weight racks to honor Notre Dame's founding year of 1842. Golden Dome Diamond Paneling: The distinctive diamond pattern from the campus Golden Dome is reinterpreted through custom quilted navy leather and gold accent stitching inside every player's locker. Authentic Helmet Gold: The exact signature gold paint and texture utilized on the team's game-day helmets are integrated directly into the walls of key operational spaces. Football Coaching History Wall: A dedicated gallery displays the complete timeline of Notre Dame football head coaches, utilizing a gold shamrock symbol next to names to highlight national championship seasons. Stadium-Style Auditorium Seating: The 190-seat Dave and Clare Butler Auditorium features custom seating engineered to replicate the premium lower- level seats found inside Notre Dame Stadium. — Steve Downey PHOTOS COURTESY NOTRE DAME ATHLETICS The Hall of Champions immediately immerses visitors into the storied history of the Notre Dame football program.
