om Nichols waited a long
time for his opportunity. It's
here, and he's grabbing it
like a man treading water in
the ocean locks onto driftwood.
The junior defensive end out of Freder-
ick, Md., hasn't been locked away unseen
since arriving in Ann Arbor two years ago.
He played in five games as a true freshman
and earned Scout Team Player of the Year
honors on defense. Last season, he per-

loss and 1.5 sacks, in Michigan's season-
opening victory over Western Michigan.
