The Wolverines added them to a loaded slate of visitors, and the Guerrants arrived on campus Saturday a couple hours before kickoff. In all, the Guerrants have made dou- ble-digit trips to U-M over the past few years. The Sept. 12 journey was a stan- dard visit: Guerrant arrived on cam- pus, weighed in, ate breakfast with the staff and then walked out to the field to watch pregame warmups with his Harper Woods teammates and fellow Michigan targets – Top 100 receiver Deandre Bidden and three-star safety Jayden Evans. Fans yelled Guerrant's name as he emerged from the tunnel. Their fam- ily watched the Wolverines take down Oklahoma, and then Guerrant joined the team in the locker room during the postgame celebration. The Guerrants met with the U-M staff afterward, as wide receivers coach Micah Simon, senior director of recruit- ing relations Ron Bellamy and offensive coordinator Jason Beck all stopped by to chat with the elite receiver and his family. "It wasn't about recruiting," Gerald Guerrant said. "It wasn't about flipping. It wasn't anything. It was just genuinely like, 'How's everything going? Let's talk about the game. What was the game plan going into this week? What did y'all see that Oklahoma wasn't as good at that y'all could emphasize?' Just go- ing over game plan-type stuff and then congratulating each other on a great win." Dakota Guerrant is childhood friends with Underwood, and Guerrant's high school coach is Rod Oden – Jacob's fa- ther and the receiver's godfather. They have a ton of connections to the Wol- verines, and Gerald Guerrant was happy to see Underwood and Michigan bounce back. "I loved it because I'm one of the peo- ple that defends Michigan, but I really defend Bryce Underwood online all the time," Gerald said. Gerald and Dakota Guerrant told The Wolverine on numerous occasions over the past year that they'd like to see U- M's passing offense take a step forward. The elder Guerrant seemed perfectly happy with Saturday's game plan, even though Michigan passed for only 111 yards in the 17-10 victory. "First of all, the whole goal of the thing is for Michigan to win," Gerald Guerrant said. "So the coaching staff is coaching their team the best way to win games. Right now, they're 2-0, so it's good to be a winner. They could be 0-2 and threw the ball for a million yards, and that wouldn't really help them out either. "I like that Michigan is winning. Of course, you would love a team that throws more if you're a receiver, and if you're a running back, you'll love a team that runs more. It just all depends. I think the game plan was sound. It was what needed to be done to win the game. Will it evolve and pass a little bit more? Maybe it will. But if that's not what is needed to win the game, I appreciate that they're doing what is needed to win the game, because it comes down to wins and losses." Dakota Guerrant will enroll at his col- lege of choice in January. When asked if the door remains open for Michigan, Gerald Guerrant said they're entirely focused on high school football — and the rest of the high school experience — right now. ❑ Dakota Guerrant aims to lead Harper Woods (Mich.)
