FUN AND GAMES spirits up Amid off-field turbulence, Nittany Lions keep their L istening to DaQuan Jones talk about his hopes and dreams – his escape from a tough neighborhood in upstate New York, his desire for one more winning season at Penn State, his aspirations of playing in the NFL someday – you can almost hear the movie-music choir swelling to a crescendo in the background, soundtracking the moment with an appropriately inspirational fanfare. Oh, wait… that is a movie-music Steve Manuel choir swelling to a crescendo in the background. As Jones talks to reporters at media day, his fellow defensive linemen, lined up on a bench near the edge of the opponent's sideline in Beaver Stadium, perform a surprisingly credible karaoke rendition of "I Believe I Can Fly." "It sounds like a lot of your teammates can sing," a reporter tells Jones. The senior tackle cracks up. "It's a comedy, man. It's pretty fun to be around these guys." It's a funny moment, all right. But does it tell us anything about the state of the Penn State football program, beyond the fact that its partially reconfigured defensive front has pretty good pitch?
