■ football recruiting star defensive end Kentavius Street from Greenville (N.C.) Rose High. NC State has been leading for the 6‑3, 265-pound Street since April. Florida State, Miami, LSU and Ole Miss trail NC State in Street's top five. Rivals.com ranks Street as the country's 16th-best prospect regardless of position, the No. 2 strongside defensive end nationally and the No. 2 player in the state. Street had 93 stops, including 19.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks, and posted 13 quarterback hurries, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries (including one he returned for a touchdown) and two blocked kicks as a junior. Another top in-state talent is Greensboro Page's Lorenzo Featherston. The 6-7, 215-pounder is listed as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com and the No. 13 weakside defensive end nationally. Clemson, Florida, Florida State, NC State, North Carolina and Tennessee are Featherston's top schools entering the fall. Featherston had 64 tackles, including 24 for loss with 14 sacks, in eight games as a junior. Also at defensive end, JUCO prospect Torey Hendrick from ASA College in Brooklyn, N.Y., made an unofficial visit to NC State over the summer. Hendrick (6‑4, 225 pounds) said that schools recruiting him the hardest include Arizona State, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State and NC State. Rivals.com ranks him as a three-star recruit. NC State also continues to recruit threestar defensive tackle Jeremy Patterson from Jesup (Ga.) Wayne County. Patterson (6-3, 315 pounds) has been favoring Clemson and Florida State, but he also has offers from NC State, Florida, North Carolina and Wisconsin, among others. Patterson has set up an official trip to Wisconsin for Sept. 6. Rivals.com ranks Patterson as the No. 37 player in Georgia and the No. 29 defensive tackle nationally. He is expected to graduate early and enroll at the college of his choice in the spring. Patterson had 37 tackles, including five sacks among eight hits for loss, and added two forced fumbles, six pass deflections and an interception that he returned for a touchdown as a junior. He is from the same high school that produced NC State junior defensive tackle T.Y. McGill. Linebacker Adding another linebacker in the class is a priority for NC State. They hosted Greg Miclisse (6-1, 230 pounds) from Palm Bay (Fla.) Bayside High on an unofficial visit over the summer, but Miclisse, a three- Rivals.com ranks Fort Pierce (Fla.) There are at least four other linebackers that may be in line for official visits to NC State. Sharieff Rhaheed is a 6‑4, 215-pounder from Fort Pierce (Fla.) Central that in July backed out of a LSU verbal commitment he had made a month earlier. Arkansas and West Virginia are also in the mix for Rhaheed, who is rated by Rivals.com as a three-star prospect, the No. 45 outside linebacker nationally and the No. 95 player in Florida. Three-star linebacker Xavier Preston from Jensen Beach (Fla.) High has set up an official visit to West Virginia for Sept. 13. NC State and Rutgers are the other schools that Preston is most seriously considering, although the 6-2, 220-pounder is not disregarding offers from Louisville and South Florida. Preston had 50 tackles as a junior, including 14 for loss with four sacks. Two-star prospect Torrence Brown from Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Academy has NCSU in his top four. Also in the mix for the 6‑4, 230-pounder are Southern Miss (which is the favorite), Arizona State and Northern Illinois. Also potentially on the board is Jimmy Bayes from Immokalee (Fla.) High. The 6‑3, 200-pounder is considered a four-star prospect, the No. 35 player in Florida and the No. 10 athlete nationally. He verbally committed to South Florida last January, but he made it clear in the summer that he is soft on his pledge. There had been a report that Bayes may September 2013 ■ 79 78-81.FB Recruiting.indd 79 8/23/13 12:58 PM
